Learning Update

From Mr Collins 2-6
I was away for 2 days this week, but am lucky enough to have been replaced by 2 superstar teachers in the 3-6 room, who had nothing but positive feedback about the effort and behaviour of the class whilst I was gone. One major task that took place was the creation of our class rules. This took 2 lessons, with the first centered around us coming up with the rules and democratically voting on what we believe our class should have, and a second where the students made their own posters in the hope of being the final poster chosen by Mrs Lehre to be displayed on our classroom door. They were all incredible. Mrs Lehre had a very difficult job ahead of her...
Being totally anonymous, Mrs Lehre had no idea who she had picked. But, in the end, the winner was Skylar Burton. Great job Skylar!
Literacy
We are continuing Narrative writing, this time with a focus on sequence and transitioning words. We have also looked at Dialogue and talking marks, especially how to punctuate them appropriately. In Reading, we are now doing A.A.D on Wednesdays. A.A.D stands for Article A Day. This in an online program where the students read a non-fiction article and complete a book of knowledge where they collect their thoughts and feelings about the text. This allows the kids to continue to develop their comprehension, build their knowledge of chosen topics, all while getting in much needed typing practice.
Numeracy
A highlight of recent Maths work has been our work on perimeter. One of the activities asked the kids to review their knowledge of shapes, create a page of varied shapes on the computer, print them and then measure their perimeter.
The Resilience Project
Recently, we have been explaining how our emotions are like visitors. We spent time explaining what different emotions are, and what they might look like if someone is feeling them. To cap it off, we played Keepie Uppie to highlight the feeling of happiness (to the song 'Happy')

Exciting News in the Playground!
We have a brand-new picnic table – now we can all eat lunch together! Frank the golden gives it his seal of approval…
Literacy Updates
In the P–2 room, we’ve been exploring nouns – both common and proper – as well as pronouns. Students are also learning about plurals with the suffix -es. Our preps are busy working hard on their sounds and building their early reading skills.
We have also been learning about the ck digraph. This is when the letters c and k work together to make the /k/ sound at the end of words, like back, neck, and duck. Students have been spotting ck words in their reading and having fun using them in sentences.
Numeracy Updates
In Numeracy, we’ve been focusing on place value – identifying which digit is in the hundreds, tens, or ones. Understanding this helps students develop strong number sense, moving beyond simple counting.
Resilience Project
This week, we explored emotions and connected them to nature. Just like clouds and trees, we can’t always control how we look or feel – and that’s perfectly okay! We will continue to focus on using our strategies and our words when we’re upset. Students practiced speaking to each other in a kind way and started their sentences with “That makes me feel…”. It’s been wonderful to see them thinking about how their words can help others understand their feelings and keep our classroom a caring and respectful space.
Integrated Studies: Healthy Me
Last week in our Healthy Me topic, we focused on keeping our bodies healthy – and that included brushing our teeth! Students had fun practicing proper brushing techniques and learning why keeping our teeth clean is so important. Mr Collins had no idea what was going on outside his classroom!
