Celebrations of Learning and Community

Year 12 Celebration Day

Our Year 12 students recently marked a significant milestone in their schooling journey with the College’s annual Celebration Day Parade. Cheered on by students from Prep to Year 11, the Class of 2026 brought plenty of colour and enthusiasm to the occasion as they celebrated their final days as Hazel Glen College students.

This year’s cohort holds a special place in the College’s history, becoming the first group of students to begin their schooling in Prep at Hazel Glen College and progress all the way through to Year 12. Their journey represents 13 years of growth, learning and memories within our College community.

Following the parade, students took part in our traditional tree planting ceremony and a speech from Mr Stockwell, before heading off for the day at Funfields with numerous other schools in attendance.

With these celebrations behind them, our Year 12 VCE students have now turned their attention to their final exams and the exciting opportunities that lie ahead. We look forward to celebrating all of our Class of 2026's achievements together at the Year 12 Graduation on 18 November.

2026 NEA Student Leadership Program Day 3

The Northern Education Alliance Student Leadership Program recently had its final day of the program for 2026. Here is Year 11 student Aaleyah's account of the day:

The NEA program followed a 3-day process and on our third day, schools across the Northern Education Alliance presented initiatives to each other at Mernda Central College. The focus of the initiatives was on how we could implement change and engagement to our respective schools. It brought fellow teenagers together who had similar goals in elevating their leadership skills through collaborative tasks across the program, which we utilised to create our presentations with our classmates.

The presentations themselves across Marymede Catholic College, Mernda Central, Parade and Ivanhoe Grammar were all outstanding, with brilliant ideas across the board on how to garner engagement through events and fundraising for causes they believed in. Ideas include skin cancer awareness, more eventful days across the senior school, and developing better infrastructure for the betterment of the community and college/s.

As students, we learnt soft skills like compromising and how to formalise and condense great ideas, as well as hard skills like being better communicators, especially with our teachers, in order to gain more agency and be precise with our presentation and development of ideas.

Overall, the experience was not just informative on how to better our skills as future leaders of the senior school and furthermore out in the world, but enjoyable as we gained relationships and friendships across schools in the northern area with kids we wouldn't have met otherwise, making it an overall engaging experience which I highly recommend to anyone interested in NEA for both Year 10s and 11s.

Year 10 Poster Showcase

On Friday 23rd October, all Year 10 Science students proudly presented their scientific poster investigations at the Year 10 Poster Showcase in STEAM. Over a three-week period, students designed and conducted their own scientific investigations, applying their knowledge of the scientific method to explore questions of interest and gather meaningful data.

The showcase provided an excellent opportunity for students to develop their scientific inquiry, research, and presentation skills while sharing their learning with others.

The showcase was well attended by both our Primary and Secondary Years students, who engaged enthusiastically with the displays and gained insight into the diverse range of investigations undertaken. Congratulations to all Year 10 Science students on their dedication, creativity, and professionalism in delivering such an impressive showcase of scientific learning.
