Heads of Secondary Years' Report

Dear Hazel Glen College Community,
The past two weeks in the Secondary Years at Hazel Glen College have been filled with meaningful moments, celebrations and opportunities to strengthen connections across our College community. From recognising important milestones to supporting learning experiences across Primary and Secondary, it has been wonderful to see our students and staff embracing the values that make our College such a special place.
Year 12 Celebration Parade
One of the highlights was our Year 12 Celebration Parade, a special opportunity to recognise and celebrate our graduating students as they approach the next chapter of their lives. A particularly meaningful moment was the planting of a symbolic tree to mark their time at Hazel Glen College.
The tree represents the growth, resilience and connections our Year 12 students have developed throughout their journey with us. As it continues to grow, it will serve as a lasting reminder of their time at the college, the friendships they have formed and the experiences that have shaped them. We wish our Year 12 students every success as they prepare to take their next steps beyond Hazel Glen College.
Celebrating World Teachers’ Day
World Teachers’ Day provided a wonderful opportunity to pause and acknowledge the incredible contribution of our teachers and support staff. We are fortunate to have such dedicated and caring staff who invest their time, energy and expertise into supporting our students each and every day.
Whether in the classroom, on the sporting field or through the many opportunities that enrich school life, our staff work tirelessly to create an environment where students feel supported, connected and encouraged to achieve their best. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all our staff for the difference they make in the lives of our students and for the care and commitment they bring to our college community.
Primary and Secondary Connections: Year 8 Supporting Year 2 Camp Day
It was wonderful to see our Primary and Secondary students come together during the Year 2 Camp Day experience. A special thank you goes to our Year 8 students, who generously gave their time to support our Year 2 students and staff throughout the day.
Their willingness to help, encourage and engage with our younger learners demonstrated the importance of leadership, kindness and collaboration. These opportunities allow our Secondary students to develop confidence and a sense of responsibility while helping our younger students feel supported as they participate in new experiences.
Seeing students across different year levels learning from and supporting one another is a wonderful reflection of the connected community we continue to build at Hazel Glen College.
Pyjama Day
Pyjama Day was certainly a hit! It was lovely to see our students embracing the fun and spirit of the day, bringing plenty of colour, creativity and enthusiasm to the College. Days like these provide a welcome opportunity for students to connect, share a laugh and enjoy a little something different from their usual school routine. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the day such an enjoyable experience for our College community.
Bridging the Gap
Our Bridging the Gap transition program has now concluded, and we are delighted with its success. The program provided a valuable opportunity to welcome our new incoming Year 7 students and their families to Hazel Glen College as they prepare for the exciting transition to secondary school in 2027.
Building familiarity, confidence and connection before the new school year begins is an important part of helping students feel comfortable and ready for this next stage of their learning journey. Through the program, students had opportunities to begin forming relationships, become familiar with our college community and take their first steps towards secondary school life.
We warmly welcome our new students and families and look forward to supporting them as they begin this exciting chapter with us in 2027. A sincere thank you to everyone involved in making the program such a positive and welcoming experience.
Performing Arts Academy Showcase
Our Performing Arts Academy Showcase was a wonderful celebration of talent, creativity and dedication. We are incredibly proud of all our students for their confidence, passion and hard work in bringing their performances to life. The showcase provided a fantastic opportunity for our students to shine, share their talents and showcase the skills they have been developing throughout the year. It was truly special to see them step into the spotlight, support one another and celebrate their achievements. Congratulations to all our performers on a fantastic showcase
Wishing Our Students Every Success in the Exam Period
As we look ahead, we wish our Year 12 students all the very best as they begin their exam period. We encourage them to approach this important time with confidence, stay focused and take care of their wellbeing as they work towards their goals. We are incredibly proud of their journey and wish them every success in their examinations and beyond.
For our Year 9 to Year 11 students, exam information and relevant details will be available on Compass. We encourage students and families to check Compass regularly to stay informed and ensure they are well prepared for the upcoming examination period.
We wish all our students the very best with their exams and assessments. Remember to stay organised, do your best and approach each challenge with confidence. We look forward to celebrating your efforts and achievements!
Sincerely,
