Careers
It has certainly been a busy start to the term in the Careers space, with Year 9 to Year 12 students participating in a range of special careers activities.
Year 12s
On the 1st of May, all Year 12 students attended the Career Expo at the Melbourne Convention Centre. There were over 100 exhibitors for students to explore, including universities, TAFEs, the Defence Force, Toyota, the Police Force, and many other organisations. Students were also able to attend VCE seminars related to specific subjects. Our Biology students particularly enjoyed visiting the Biology seminar and meeting their Edrolo teacher.
Year 10s
The annual Careers Day Out in Shepparton was attended by a large group of Year 10 students. Students were able to observe and try a wide range of jobs, including operating a garbage truck, driving a car simulator, discussing health needs, making electrical circuits, and much more. Students also had opportunities to discuss career pathways with local tradespeople, TAFEs, and universities.
Year 9s
Year 9 students undertook their Morrisby assessments and interviews. Morrisby is a career-based tool that allows students to identify their strengths and explore suggested career pathways. After completing the initial assessment, all students participated in a one-on-one interview with a consultant to help them understand their results. This is a highly valuable and well-regarded program, and all students are encouraged to share their results with their parents.
Defence Force Presentation
The Australian Defence Force discussed the roles and career pathways available in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Students found the presentation highly valuable and left with many options to consider. If you would like more information about work experience with the Defence Force, please see Mrs McKenzie.
First Aid Course
As part of the Year 11 Vocational Major, Year 10 VET Building and Construction, and VET Hospitality programs, students participated in a First Aid Course with Intelligent Training Solutions. A big thank you to Mrs Taylor for her organisation and support.
YEAR 12 CHES – The Push
A number of Year 12 students attended a Centre for Higher Education Studies (CHES) session at Bendigo Senior Secondary College for a day of learning. The focus was on how to get the most out of their studies as they move towards end-of-year exams. Thank you to Mrs White and Mrs Carty for driving the bus.
Year 12 Regional Pathways Program
Every two weeks during the Year 12 GROW lesson, we are pleased to welcome Steph Di Palma and her team from La Trobe University to teach students about study skills, time management, communication skills, and all aspects of university life.
