Principal's Patch

As we approach the final weeks of Semester 1, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our students, staff and families for their ongoing support and contribution to making Palm Beach State School such a positive and successful learning community. It has been another busy and rewarding term, with our students embracing a wide range of academic, sporting, cultural and leadership opportunities.

I am particularly excited for Semester 1 Report Cards to be distributed in Week 10. These reports provide an opportunity to celebrate student growth, achievement and effort, and reflect on the wonderful learning that has taken place throughout the semester. I encourage families to take the time to acknowledge and celebrate the progress their children have made.

As we head into the final stretch of the term, I wish everyone all the best and look forward to finishing the semester strongly together. And finally, with State of Origin Game II just around the corner—Go Queensland!

Staffing

I am pleased to welcome Gabriela Peres Rodrigues to Palm Beach State School as our new Social Worker.

Hi Palm Beach State School community! My name is Gabi, and I am the school's Social Worker.

I am originally from Brazil and have been living in Australia for the past 9 years. I speak three languages, and about to learn the 4th. A few fun facts about me: I love dancing, singing, music, surfing, volunteering, spending time with family and friends, and I am a huge animal lover.

As the school Social Worker, I support students and families with their social, emotional, and mental wellbeing. This may include supporting students through challenges, helping build confidence, resilience and emotional regulation skills, connecting families with services, and working alongside parents, carers and school staff to help students thrive.

I feel very grateful to be part of the Palm Beach State School community and look forward to getting to know our wonderful students and families. Please feel free to say hello if you see me around the school!

Sporting Achievement

Huge congratulations to Amelia who recently competed in the U12s AFL school girls state championships in Cairns. The team performed exceptionally well and won the carnival. Amelia was selected in the QLD team to play in the national championships in August at Canberra. We wish her and the QLD team all the best at the national championships.

Parliament House Visit

Recently, our School Leaders had the wonderful opportunity to visit Queensland Parliament House with our local State Member for Burleigh, Mr Hermann Vorster MP. Throughout the day, our students represented Palm Beach State School with pride, demonstrating outstanding leadership, maturity and engagement. They contributed thoughtfully and enthusiastically to discussions with Mr Vorster, particularly around issues currently impacting our local community. We are incredibly proud of the way our leaders conducted themselves and thank Mr Vorster for his time and generous hospitality and for providing this valuable learning experience.

Camps

Our senior students have recently enjoyed two outstanding camp experiences, with Year 6 attending Tangalooma Island Resort and Year 5 attending Camp Goodenough.

Our inaugural Year 6 camp to Tangalooma was an exceptional success. Staff unanimously commented that it was one of the best camps they have been involved in. Students embraced every opportunity, demonstrated outstanding behaviour, and represented Palm Beach State School with pride throughout the experience. The positive feedback from staff and external providers was a credit to our students and families.

I would like to thank our staff who spent time away from their own families to provide this opportunity for our students.

Chappy Week

Last week we celebrated Chappy Week and acknowledged the outstanding contribution of our school chaplain, Sophie.

Sophie continues to provide invaluable support to students, families and staff and plays an important role in fostering wellbeing across our school community. We sincerely thank her for her ongoing dedication and care.

Palm Beach Currumbin SHS Musical – Rock of Ages

Last week members of our Dance Club and Choir had the exciting opportunity to perform in Palm Beach Currumbin State High School's production of Rock of Ages at The Star.

The production was outstanding, and it was wonderful to see our students perform alongside many former Palm Beach State School students who were involved in a variety of roles. A special thank you goes to Miss Hayman and Mrs Riordan for the countless hours they dedicated, including many weekends, to rehearsals and preparation to support our students.

Congratulations to our Bands and Strings ensembles who recently performed magnificently at this term's Fanfare event held at Currumbin State School.

All ensembles performed exceptionally well, achieving Gold and Silver results. These achievements reflect the dedication and hard work of our students and the outstanding leadership of Mrs Chandler and Miss Kesting. We thank them for their ongoing commitment to our instrumental music program.

Cross Country

Recently, a number of our students represented the school at the South Coast Cross Country Trials. We congratulate all students who competed and represented Palm Beach State School with determination and sportsmanship. Congratulations to Emerson (Yr 4)1st Place u10 Boys and Aria (Yr5) 6th Place u11 Girls Both have qualified for the state carnival. These are exceptional achievements at this level of competition.

Uniform Reminders

As we move into the cooler months, please remember to clearly name all jumpers, jackets and tracksuit pants, as we always see a large amount of lost property during winter.

A reminder of our uniform expectations:

  • Hair should be natural in colour. Coloured hair is not in line with our school dress code. If your child currently has coloured hair, we ask that this is rectified at their next haircut.
  • Tracksuit pants are not part of the school uniform.
  • Hair that falls below the shirt collar must be tied up.
  • White socks are to be worn (not black or coloured).
  • Black shoes only—no white soles or stripes.
  • Jewellery is limited to studs or sleepers and a plain watch. This is the only jewellery permitted.

Kind regards

Mr Anderson
