Class Celebrations

Year 1

This week to finish off our learning during our Astronomy unit, students had a fantastic day visiting Scienceworks. They really enjoyed exploring the Beyond Perception exhibition and having a go at the different activities in the Sportsworks area. The Planetarium was a wonderful experience and helped bring our learning about space to life. A real highlight was the Pumping Station, where students loved exploring the visual perception games and interactive experiences. Our Year 1 students represented SMPS beautifully, showing curiosity, enthusiasm and excellent behaviour throughout the day. A huge thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers for giving up their time and helping make the day such a success!

Year 2

Our Year 2 students have started Ready for Life, where they learn and practise important life skills through hands-on experiences.

This term, we are focusing on cooking!

Over the past few weeks, students have been learning how to make dough together, and this week they put their skills into practice by making flatbreads. They rolled out their own dough and then cooked it, developing their confidence and independence along the way.

It has been wonderful to see the students working together, following instructions and enjoying the process of creating something they can eat and share!

Year 3

Our excursion to Legoland Chadstone was a fantastic way to celebrate our science unit on forces. Students took part in the push car derby workshop, where they investigated pushes, pulls, gravity, and friction by designing and testing their own Lego cars. The day also included two rides, a visit to the 4D cinema, and time in the themed Lego build and play zones. It was a fun and memorable day filled with discovery, teamwork, and hands-on learning. 

Year 4

Year 4 students have been enjoying exploring chance and probability in Maths. They have been learning to describe the likelihood of events using chance language such as more likely, less likely and equally likely. Students have also been learning to represent probability using both fractions and decimals.

They have explored the difference between independent and dependent chance experiments and had lots of fun conducting their own experiments.

We are so proud of how engaged and enthusiastic our Year 4 students have been during their Maths learning!

Year 5

Year 5 students have spent the last few weeks rehearsing for their assembly performance in Week 5. The performance was aligned with our Term 3 Humanities unit, Travel and Tourism, in which students have explored migration, the reasons why people migrate to Australia, and how each migrant’s experience is unique. Students have learned about the ‘push’ and ‘pull’ factors that cause people to move to new places, which they have been able to explore further through our class novel study, The Boy at the Back of the Class. The students did a fantastic job of connecting the lyrics of our performance song, ‘I Am Australian’, to our studies on migrant stories.

Year 6

Students have been working hard to learn and perfect their dance for our upcoming production. Some students have even been chosen for a short solo to showcase their skills. We are very proud of how quickly students have been able to pick up the dance moves and changing positions. We can’t wait to see our Year 6 legends shine on stage in a few weeks!
