STAGE 3 DEBATING COMPETITION

This year we have had 2 teams compete in the Armidale Catholic Schools Stage 3 debating competition. Both teams debated over zoom, versing schools from around the diocese. At the completion of the competition, both teams placed equal first in the competition.

On Tuesday, we held a live debate between our 2 teams. The teams debated the topic "That Professional Athletes are Paid Too Much". Both teams presented compelling and convincing arguments and showed the Year 4 and Year 6 audience how persuasive they could be. Mr Flynn had the honour of adjudicating this debate. He awarded the win (by the narrowest of margins) to the negative team.

These children have not only improved their persuasive writing skills through debating, they have also become more confident public speakers and have learned to collaborate and work as a team. Congratulations to both teams!

A big thank you to Mrs Daley and to the Year 6 coaches who have put a lot of time and effort into preapring these debaters over the last two terms.

THE RACE THAT STOPS ST NICKS

Move over Flemington, the real racing action was right here at St Nicholas today!

We celebrated the Melbourne Cup with our very own "Race That Stopped St Nichs," and it was spectacularly chaotic.

Our incredible teachers swapped their high-vis vests for inflatable costumes and battled it out in a series of unforgettable heats. We witnessed the fierce 'Barnyard Brawl' (so many animals!), the truly baffling 'Magic Round' (yes, that was a pumpkin racing a unicorn), 'Santa's Dash', and the mighty 'Piggy Power Race'.

It all finished with one mad final, with every single inflated teacher waddling, bouncing, and stumbling for the finish line and ultimate bragging rights.

A huge thank you to our staff for being such great sports and giving us all a massive laugh – it was definitely a day to remember!
