Dear Families,
School Closure Days
School will be closed for all students on Monday 6 November, Tuesday 7 November (Melbourne Cup Public Holiday) and Wednesday 8 November. Staff will be participating in the second day of the Berry Street Education Model, focusing on the Relationship domain. I hope families enjoy this mid-term break.
St Joseph's Award
Congratulations to Atlas and Sienna for receiving the St Joseph's Awards at last week's assembly.
Prep 2024 Students
Our 2024 Preps are in the midst of their transition program at the moment. Last Wednesday the new students met one another (parents also) and today the students explored the school environment, inside and out.
Lunchtime Clubs
To assist students with developing their social skills and engagement at outside break time, we have put a few structures in place. The senior students have organised and lead a basketball round robin for students in Years 3 - 6. Staff offer activities and clubs throughout the week. Below is a schedule::
Monday - Sport skills & drills
Tuesday - Library, Dance Club & Lego Robotics
Wednesday - Chess Club & Choir
Thursday - Library & Art Hub
Friday - Sustainability
Bushfire Season
Our Emergency Management Plan has been updated to represent the school's inclusion in the Bushfire at Risk Register (BARR). We have clear procedures that we will follow in the event of a local bushfire. The school is advised to close on days that are categorised as Catastrophic - the highest fire rating. Families have been invited to join the Shire, CFA and Sorrento Fire Brigade for the upcoming fire safety essentials session to be held at the Sorrento Community Centre on Friday, 3 November, 2023, commencing at 2.00pm.

Academic Challenge Day
Students from local Catholic Primary Schools traveled to Padua College Mornington Campus to participate in the inaugural Padua Academic Challenge. This was a great day with students competing in a number of tasks that stretched them academically. Congratulations to our St Joseph's team who took out the Engineering prize for the day.
School Uniforms
Beleza are excited to announce that their Annual VIP Sale will be running again soon for 2023! For the Rosebud store, the sale will be running from Saturday 4th of November to Saturday 11th November. Families can receive 20% off Beleza-branded items during this sale period, so it's a great opportunity to prepare for the 2024 school year and save on some of those back-to-school costs.
Fathering Project
We will be holding a sports evening on Wednesday 22 November at 5:00pm. More details can be found later in the newsletter.
Boomerang Bag Day
It is a free dress day on Friday 24 November to support Boomerang Bag Ladies. Please bring a gold coin donation or even fabric if you have some spare around home. We will be selling bags for $2:00 or $5:00 (lined) for those families interested. The money raised by the Boomerang Bag Ladies is distributed across local community groups such as Food For All, Southern Peninsula Community Support and the local schools.
Canteen
Canteen is run by our Year Six students and will be on again this coming Friday. Profits go towards the Year Six Graduation Dinner at the end of the year.
Have a great week,
Monica
