Sustainability

Earlier in the year, the Year 5/6 students participated in the Mornington Peninsula Shire's Birds In Schools Program. As a part of this program our students identified through vegetation and bird audits that our school grounds didn't provide smaller plant habitat that would attract smaller nectar feeding birds.  As their action, students planted more indigenous plants provided by Cam Walls, Natural Systems Project Office. These will help our ecosystem and the biodiversity in our school.

At Beach STEAM last Friday we had the privilege of having Josie Jones OAM participate in our activities.

Year Prep and 1/2 students became active citizens in helping to clean up our foreshore.

Josie shared some of her treasures, a spiny seahorse, weedy sea dragons amongst a few. Josie also discussed the problem of litter at our beaches and how we can care for  country.

The highlight was the discussion about Moon Snails and their jelly-like sacks.

Students were able to hold these up to the light and see the thousands of eggs contained inside.

Boomerang Bag Day

Friday the 24th November is our gold coin for Sorrento Boomerang Bags Day. This organisation actively contributes to looking after our environment,  by sewing bags from recycled fabric. Their money goes back to schools and the local community. Please support these amazing ladies.
