16 Days of Activism – Student Awareness Session

As part of our school’s ongoing commitment to promoting respect, safety, and wellbeing for all, students in Years 7–11 took part this week in a 30-minute interactive session in support of the global 16 Days of Activism campaign. This important initiative raises awareness about preventing gender-based violence and encourages young people to recognise the role they can play in creating a more respectful and supportive community.

The session was delivered in an engaging, age-appropriate, and inclusive format designed to spark conversation and deepen students’ understanding. Students explored the importance of preventing gender-based violence by thinking about what makes a respectful relationship and the types of friendships they would like in their lives. We were grateful to Molly and PAM from the NCLLEN for delivering this program.

To help mark the occasion, each student received a specially made 16DOA cookie—a big thank you to Naomi Fitzpatrick for the amazing baked treats!

A very special and heartfelt thank you goes to Jess McGurk, our Head of Wellbeing, whose dedication ensures our students continue to access meaningful learning opportunities like this. Jess’s commitment to fostering a culture of safety, inclusion, and respect is truly appreciated by staff and students alike.

Why This Education Matters

Providing young people with structured learning opportunities around respect, equality, and the prevention of gender-based violence is essential. Education of this kind empowers students to:

Understand what respectful relationships look like
Consider the qualities they value in friendships and connections
Challenge harmful stereotypes and attitudes
Recognise the importance of speaking up and supporting one another
Build a school culture where everyone feels safe, valued, and heard

By helping students develop these skills, we contribute to a safer community—both within and beyond our school.

Work Experience Wrap-up

Our Work Experience Program has now successfully finished for the year. Our Year 10 students had a fantastic experience and embraced the opportunity to build their skills, confidence and independence.

Two weeks can feel like a long time away from home, and we sincerely thank our parents and families for their ongoing support in helping make this program possible. We also recognise the significant fundraising efforts contributed by our families — their hard work and commitment play a vital role in ensuring this program continues to run so successfully.

A huge thank you to Zoe, Briony, Andrea, Claire and Nadia for attending and supporting our students across the two weeks. A special thank you also goes to Abby for her guidance throughout the year. Her organisation and behind-the-scenes work ensure our students are well-prepared and placed in meaningful and valuable workplaces.

We look forward to 2026, with students and families already off to a great start through their continued fundraising efforts.

A Wrap-Up of Our Year 10 Work Experience & Step-Up Programs

As we come to the end of another busy and rewarding year, we are delighted to celebrate the success of our Year 10 Work Experience Program and our 10-into-12 and 11-into-12 Step-Up Programs. These programs are such a valuable part of our students’ learning journey, giving them the chance to stretch themselves, build confidence, and experience new challenges as they prepare for the year ahead.

A heartfelt thank you goes to every staff member who has supported Charlton students throughout this period. Your guidance, organisation, encouragement and flexibility ensure that our students step into their next chapter feeling prepared and empowered.

This year, we extend some special shout-outs:

Rosee (Library) – for preparing all student book packs with care, efficiency, and a smile.
Abby Mulquiny and Mary-Anne Sait – for delivering engaging and informative Careers and Pathways presentations that helped set students up for thoughtful decision-making.
Rhys Thompson – for his extensive planning and coordination of the Year 10 Work Experience Program, ensuring every student was placed, supported, and set up for success.

And of course, to every staff member who prepares, guides, and encourages Charlton students at this busy time of year: thank you. Your commitment and professionalism underpin the strength of these programs and the confidence our students carry forward.

VCE Results Released on December 11 – What Students Need to Do Next

With VCE results being released on Wednesday 11 December, we know this can be an exciting and sometimes stressful time for students and families. Regardless of the outcome, there are important steps to take to ensure every student is supported and prepared for what comes next.

1. Accessing Your Results

Students can access their results from 7.00am via the official VCAA and VTAC online portals. Make sure you have your login details ready the night before to avoid any last-minute problems.

2. Check Your Course Preferences

Once you’ve seen your results, log in to your VTAC account and review your course preferences.

Are they still in the right order?
Do they reflect your current goals?
Do you need to add pathway options or adjust based on your ATAR or study scores?

Remember: you are choosing the order you prefer, not the order you think you’ll get into.

3. Contact the School & Sue Clay for Support

Our staff are here to help. If you have questions about your results, scaling, course directions, or next steps, please reach out. Conversations with a teacher or careers staff member can help you understand your options and make confident decisions.

4. Consider All Pathways

Whether you achieved the results you hoped for or not, there are many different pathways into further education, apprenticeships, and the workforce. These may include:

University pathway programs
TAFE certificates and diplomas
Apprenticeships or traineeships
Work opportunities combined with future study
Bridging and foundation programs

There is no single 'right' path, just the one that suits you.

5. Don’t Panic – Change of Preference Is Still Open

Students can continue to change their VTAC preferences until the Change of Preference (COP) deadline. This is your chance to refine your list, add backup options, or re-order your preferences with updated confidence.

6. Take Care of Yourself

Receiving results can come with big emotions—pride, surprise, relief, or disappointment. All are normal. Take time to talk with family, friends, or staff, and remember: your results do not define your future success.

The Post Results and ATAR Service (PRAS) is a phone and email enquiry service which can assist with questions about your VCE results and your ATAR. The PRAS is run by the VCAA and VTAC and operates for five days following the release of results. PRAS is a joint service between the VCAA and VTAC.
