Foundation

Hello Families,

We hope you're all staying nice and warm in this frosty weather! As part of our chemical science unit in Inquiry, the children became scientists for the day to experiment with whether paper is waterproof. We read the book What If Gumboots Were Made of Paper and then created our own paper gumboots to stomp in water. We discovered that paper isn't waterproof and that they wouldn't make very effective gumboots as they get very soggy and ripped once they were wet! After some more experimenting with plastic, fabric, rubber and cardboard, we established rubber is probably the best material for rainboots! They would definitely come in handy this week.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone, stay dry :)

Please enjoy the photos that the children took turns to take on an ipad themselves!

Year 1

Hi Families,

Another week of wonderful learning has flown by in Year 1! This week, we were fortunate to have a police officer visit our class to speak with the children about online safety. It was an engaging and valuable session, and we encourage you to ask your child what they learned.

Next week will be a very short week, with the King's Birthday public holiday on Monday and a Teacher Professional Practice Day on Tuesday. We hope you all enjoy the extra-long weekend and have the opportunity to spend some quality time with family and friends.

As always, thank you for your continued support. Please enjoy the photo's below.

😊Terri

Year 2

Hello Families,

What a chilly windy week! Our class braved the weather to enjoy their learning, activities and friendships. During the week we measured our heights using the new giant sized ruler and asked our 'wonder 'questions after reading a story. It was a lot of fun planning for our STEAM projects, making sailboats out of recycled materials. We were lucky to have policeman 'Robbie 'talk to F-2 how to be safe using the internet. We prayed for our class friends who were not feeling their best. We have such a lovely group of learners and can't wait to share the next steps in our STEAM projects.

Year 3/4 AL

This week in Maths, students explored the features of 2D shapes, including sides, edges, vertices and curved lines. On Thursday, they used a variety of 2D shapes to create their own unique shape or picture. Students then identified and counted the vertices, edges and curved lines in their creations, demonstrating their growing understanding of geometric concepts.

In Year 3/4T this week, we have been developing our summary writing skills by exploring our favourite novels.

Students selected a book they enjoy reading and wrote about the story, characters, and their favourite part. They also created wonderful illustrations to accompany their writing. We are proud of the effort and creativity shown in their work!

Year 5/6M

Grade 5/6 M have been very busy in the Music room and have pondered our wonderful memories on camp.

We have enjoyed our camp away to Phillip Island so much, that we have been composing a musical rap or song about our experiences.

Some students have focused on the penguins, others the chocolate factory, and then others, surfing! This involves creating a melody, rhythm, pitch, tempo, dynamics, verses and a chorus.

We will then put our piece together, once we have worked out our instruments and how we will consolidate our song/rap,  for example, Chrome Music Lab, recording our voice and instruments or to our choosing.  We are beginning to feel like songwriters!

Year 5/6J

Our inquiry unit has been a fabulous experience so far in term 2, with many exciting and engaging opportunities to be curious and creative! This was displayed again this week as we began designing an item that students have come up with, and will make using repuprosed old denim jeans! Students followd the following design process to make sure it was realistic and achievable:

  1. Brainstorm List of Ideas
  2. Select a design item you would like to make
  3. Sketch it. Draw it
  4. Identify materials you will need
  5. Write a step by step plan on how to make it

A remimder also to families if you could please bring in any old denims products we can use for your child to make their item it would be much appreciated!

We are so excited to see all their awesome designs come to life in the next few weeks!!
