🏆 Winter 2025 Interschool Sport Season Wrap-Up ❄️
What a season! The Winter 2025 Interschool Sport campaign will go down as one to remember, with outstanding achievements, incredible effort, and plenty of heart shown by our students and coaches across all teams. From first-time wins to premiership glory, our athletes flew the SOGS flag high with pride!
🏉 AFL – PREMIERS!
Led by first-year coach Mrs Caroline Barresi, our AFL team had a dream season — finishing on top of the ladder and crowned Broadmeadows West District Premiers! With relentless effort, fierce tackling, and team-first football, the boys stormed through the season and lifted the trophy. An amazing effort in Caroline’s coaching debut — we hear Carlton FC might come calling soon!
🤾 Euro Handball – Building for the Future
A massive shoutout to Mrs Anita John, who coached our Euro Handball Team with positivity and focus on development. This team showed enormous growth, culminating in their first-ever win late in the season. Their confidence, teamwork, and understanding of the game grew each week — watch out next year!
🏐 Netball – A Season of Highs and Near Misses
Ms Paige Lapenta, our resident Netball Coach Extraordinaire, once again led with brilliance. The Open Team claimed a well-deserved championship, showing skill, strategy, and composure under pressure. The Girls Team gave it everything and showed great resilience, narrowly missing finals — but with plenty to be proud of.
⚽ Soccer – So Close, So Strong
Our soccer teams did us proud! The Girls Team were crowned District Champions and now progress to the next stage of competition — an outstanding effort. The Boys Team narrowly missed out by just two points on the final day, in a heartbreaking finish, but their skill and teamwork were first class all season.
A huge congratulations to all students who participated, and to our amazing coaches who guided and inspired our teams throughout the winter season. Your efforts, dedication, and sportsmanship have made our school community proud.
We can't wait to see what the next season brings — but for now, let’s celebrate an incredible winter of sport at SOGS!
Yours in Sport
