A Book Week to Remember

What a wonderful Book Week 2026 we have had so far! This year’s theme, “A Symphony of Stories,” gave us the perfect opportunity to celebrate books, authors, characters and the wonderful stories that bring our school community together.

This year, we took our Book Week celebrations to the next level! Our library was transformed into a vibrant celebration of books and reading, with a spectacular balloon arch and colourful decorations creating a fun and festive atmosphere.

In the four weeks leading up to Book Week, teachers shared the wonderful shortlisted books with their classes, building excitement and anticipation for the celebrations.

During Book Week, every student received a book to take home and enjoy, helping to encourage a love of reading beyond the classroom. Students also enjoyed some special treats throughout the week, including icy poles, a movie and popcorn.

The excitement continued with two fun competitions. Students in Grades 3–6 took part in our “Book Search” competition, where they identified books from their covers, found them in the library and recorded each title and author.

Our second competition, “Help Find the Lost Symphony Orchestra Musicians,” was open to all students and staff. It brought plenty of excitement and laughter as everyone put their observation and problem-solving skills to the test.

It was wonderful to see our whole school community embracing the joy of books, reading and a little friendly competition. Our Book Week celebrations have been filled with laughter, excitement and, most importantly, a shared love of stories and reading!

Elpida – Year 6 Library Leader

I really enjoyed the Book Week competitions because everyone had a chance to participate and compete. It was exciting to see students working together and having fun.

The students and teachers also enjoyed the Book Week Parade because everyone had the opportunity to show off their amazing costumes from different books.

Watching a movie was also a fun way to celebrate Book Week and it was interesting.

As a Library Leader, I had the opportunity to help the Prep and Year 2 students create their own masterpieces. I enjoyed helping them use their imagination and creativity to make their masterpiece.

Book Week was so much fun! I really enjoyed eating popcorn and watching a movie with my class. The Book Week Parade today was lively and exciting, with lots of fun music for each class to parade around to. Seeing some of my favourite book characters come to life made me feel so happy.

As a Library Leader, I especially enjoyed helping the Year 2 students complete an art activity linked to Book Week. They used their imagination and creativity to create their own unique masterpieces.

I also enjoyed creating a special Library Leaders display for the library. It was great to see everyone’s hard work come together.

The Book Week competitions were also lots of fun. Classes worked together as a team to find the different Book Week characters hidden around the school. It was wonderful to see everyone having fun, working together and celebrating their love of books. We also got to guess book characters.
