The Issue Highlights
Dear Families,
It has been a busy two weeks since our last newsletter with the biggest and happiest news being the safe and early arrival of Anthony’s third child, August (Auggie), brother to Lottie and Ollie. We wish Anthony, Hannah and family many happy days ahead as a family of five.
Book Week
This week we have had lots of fun celebrating Book Week where the message was ‘Reading is Magic.” Max the Magician visited to perform some magic tricks, classroom doors were decorated, and students got the opportunity to use the green screen room to create a scene from their favourite book. Thank you to the staff for their creativity in developing exciting and engaging activities for our students throughout the week. The classroom doors looked amazing and the judges had a very tough decision in choosing the winners.
The winners of the classroom doors were:
Congratulations winners and thank you to everyone for doing such an amazing job!
Year 9 – 12 Formal
The theme the students chose for their formal was “Under the Wild West Stars.”
The hall was decorated to create ambience and atmosphere and set the scene for a great evening. Students stepped through the saloon doors and into a western wonderland, complete with rustic decor, checkered tablecloths, cacti and a county jail. They enjoyed the photo booth—perfect for capturing memories with their friends. There was our resident DJ playing a lively mix of country and popular tunes with students joining in line dancing and other dance competitions. Many enjoyed the variety of food and drinks on offer, and all had an absolute ball.
Many thanks to the parents who brought their children to enjoy a night out with their friends and all the staff involved in making the night a successful one for our students.
Bullying No Way – National Week of Action
To bring more awareness to ‘Bullying No Way’ at Jackson school, last Friday students could choose to wear something purple to celebrate anti-bullying day, the colour purple symbolising peace. Students made a pledge to be a kind person and stamp out bullying. Students did a range of activities in class and there were some fun lunch time activities to reinforce kindness, friendship and acceptance.
As a school we are aware of the potential harmful effects of bullying. The primary aim of the school's response is to restore a positive learning environment for all students. Positive responses are based on the understanding that children and young people are in the process of learning how to be a member of the school and wider community.
2024 Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey
Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents, caregivers and guardians think of our school. The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. A random sample of approximately 30 per cent of parents / caregivers / guardians has been selected to participate in this year’s survey. If you have been chosen to participate and complete the survey, you will go into a draw to win a $50 Woolworths voucher.
The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open until Friday 30 August.
Randomly selected families have been contacted to complete the survey, which is conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the survey period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. If you would like access to a computer, then please let the school office know. The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. If you have misplaced the log in details, please contact the office for assistance.
