Week 2

Dear Parents and Carers,
Reflecting on what to write for this newsletter, I realised we are already in Week 2 of the final term of the year. My big question is: where has the year gone.?
There has been so much happening at Naranga School, and there is still plenty to look forward to over the coming weeks.
Just yesterday, our Year 10 students began their one-day-a-week work experience placements, which will continue until the end of the year. This follows the successful work experience program for our Year 11 and 12 students last term.
On Wednesday, our Koorie students attended an activity at Willum Warrain. It was wonderful to see students from our younger year levels through to our senior students coming together, engaging with one another and offering support. Many photos were taken throughout the day, capturing the students’ involvement and enjoyment. These have now been printed and will be displayed around the school.
During lunchtime, I was out in the junior yard and was delighted to see our buddy program in full swing. Our Year 6 students have been pairing up with our Prep students, providing valuable benefits for everyone involved. The Year 6 students develop a sense of responsibility and leadership, while our Prep students enjoy the opportunity to interact and build connections with older students in the yard.
With our school concert coming up next week, students are working hard to practise and perfect their performances. It is always a wonderful event, and I am very much looking forward to seeing everyone on stage. If you have not yet purchased your tickets, there is still time to do so!
Another exciting event taking place next week is the Peninsula Applied Learning Awards. I understand that three of our students are expected to receive awards, which is a fantastic achievement and something we look forward to celebrating.
Our senior students are also beginning to plan for graduation. As they approach the end of their time at Naranga, it is natural for them to feel a little nervous about the next chapter ahead. Graduation is a special opportunity to celebrate their individual journeys, recognise their achievements and reflect on their time at Naranga School. It is also a wonderful occasion to share these milestones with their parents, carers and families as they look forward to the future.
Planning for the 2027 school year is already well underway, and before we know it, we will be preparing to farewell another year of learning, growth and achievement.

Art
🎨 Why Paper Fan Painting Is Good for Kids
- Develops fine motor skills – folding, holding and painting the paper strengthens hand control and coordination.
- Encourages creativity – children can choose their own colours, patterns and designs.
- Teaches colour mixing – students can explore primary and secondary colours and see how colours change when mixed.
Supports different abilities – students can participate at their own level. Some may paint freely, while others can follow a simple colour or pattern, use teacher modelling, or work with pre-folded paper.
Learning Intention: Students will explore colour, pattern and painting techniques while developing fine motor skills, creativity and self-expression.
Mobile phones
A timely reminder that the Department of Education requires students who bring mobile phones to school to hand them to their classroom teacher, where they will be securely stored for the day.
STATE SCHOOL RELIEF
Families wishing to access support through State Schools’ Relief are encouraged to contact the school.
Please email naranga.sch@education.vic.gov.au for assistance with placing an order or for further information.
MEDICATION
The information below is from the Department of Education policy advisory line.
Schools must ensure all medication to be administered is:
- accompanied by written advice providing directions for appropriate storage and administration
- in the original container with the original label including the name of the student, information on the dosage and time to be administered
- within its expiry date
stored according to the product instructions, particularly in relation to temperature.
Schools should encourage parents or carers to consider whether they can administer medication outside the school day, such as before and after school and before bed.
Over-the-counter medications (including paracetamol) requires a medical authority form that can be filled out at the office.
