Mathmatics

This term in Mathematics, students will continue building strong foundations in number by working with numbers beyond 120. They will persist with their understanding of place value by recognising, representing, and ordering numbers using physical and virtual materials, numerals, number lines, and charts, while practicing partitioning one- and two-digit numbers in different ways.
Students will explore pattern sequences formed by skip counting by twos, fives, and tens using numbers, shapes, symbols, and Australian coins. Additionally, they will use mathematical modelling to solve practical additive problems, including simple money transactions, representing these situations with diagrams and calculation strategies to build fluency.
In Measurement, Space, and Statistics, students will describe, sequence, and measure the duration of events using years, months, weeks, days, and hours, while directly and indirectly comparing objects by length, mass, and capacity. Hands-on tasks will involve measuring lengths with uniform, end-to-end informal units and following spatial directions to move people and objects within a space. Furthermore, students will engage with data by acquiring, recording, and representing categorical information through tally marks, digital tools, and one-to-one displays to compare frequencies and discuss their findings.
