Life Skills BBQ Sauce Activity
Each Friday, Hudson, Blair and Vojitha take part in our Life Skills program. They researched BBQ sauce recipes and developed detailed shopping lists before heading to Woolworths to purchase their ingredients. They practiced comparing brands, substitutions, specials and unit prices to make informed, budget-conscious choices.
The following week, they put their skills into action by making BBQ sauce as Father’s Day gifts. They practiced sterilizing jars, accurately measuring and mixing ingredients, tasting and adjusting their sauce, and designing and applying labels. We hope their special gift was enjoyed by the important people in their lives!
Storybook Reading and Art Pathway
1. Read
- Read a picture storybook aloud to the children.
- Pause throughout the story to discuss the characters, setting, and key events.
- Ask prediction and comprehension questions to encourage children to think about what might happen next and recall important details.
2. Respond
- Invite children to share their favourite part of the story and explain why they enjoyed it.
- Discuss the characters’ feelings and how these feelings are represented in the story.
- Explore the colours, ideas, and themes presented in the book.
- Encourage children to connect the story to their own experiences and homes.
3. Create
- Invite children to draw a picture of their home.
- Ask children to talk about what is important or special about their home.
- Encourage children to include meaningful features such as family members, pets, gardens, trees, or other objects that are important to them.
- Provide opportunities for children to share their artwork and explain the ideas behind their drawings.

Mobile phones
A timely reminder that the Department of Education requires students who bring mobile phones to school to hand them to their classroom teacher, where they will be securely stored for the day.

MEDICATION
The information below is from the Department of Education policy advisory line.
Schools must ensure all medication to be administered is:
- accompanied by written advice providing directions for appropriate storage and administration
- in the original container with the original label including the name of the student, information on the dosage and time to be administered
- within its expiry date
stored according to the product instructions, particularly in relation to temperature.
Schools should encourage parents or carers to consider whether they can administer medication outside the school day, such as before and after school and before bed.
Over-the-counter medications (including paracetamol) requires a medical authority form that can be filled out at the office.
