Library News

Excitement is building! In Term 3 our Library truly comes alive with wonderful events designed to bring literature to life. Our library is transforming to reflect the Children’s Book Council of Australia 2026 Book Week theme Symphony of Stories. Our classes will soon immerse themselves in the CBCA shortlisted books through special author visits, artworks, drama performances and classroom activities. We look forward to sharing our symphony of activities with families. Please watch Compass for important event information. The highlight of our library calendar is our Book Week Parade on Thursday 27th August. Save the date!
Can you guess what our staff will dress up as this year?!
Scholastic Book Fair
Wednesday 19th - Friday 21st August 2026
Each year St Patrick’s engages with Scholastic to host a Book Fair in the lead up to Book Week. In Week 5 a ‘pop up’ Book Fair (shop) will be set up in the Library. Students will visit the Book Fair to view books and other items for sale. Information on how to purchase items will be sent home on Compass and with your child. The Book Fair will be open to parents before school on Wednesday 19th - Friday 21st August and briefly after school on these days. Students whose parents cannot attend the Book Fair will come to the Book Fair during school hours.
All families who purchase goods are entered in our lucky door prizes. The funds generated by Book Fair directly benefit our school. In 2025, we sold a record $15,000 worth of books thanks to the generosity of the St Patrick’s community! This allowed us to purchase new books and classroom resources.
Whilst Book Fair raises funds for our school we understand that all family circumstances are different and there is no pressure to purchase. We are grateful for the many other ways our St Patrick’s community supports our library, be it borrowing books, participating in our Book Week activities or dressing up for Book Parade.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
Important Notice: Technical difficulties/PRC Website:
The NSW Department of Education had a system upgrade during the school holidays which caused technical difficulties with the PRC website. The PRC IT team has now rectified this issue. If your child in Yrs 3-6 had difficulty accessing the PRC website please try to log on again. Email Mrs Wainwright if you need your child’s PRC log on details or experience any further difficulties. announcements@stpsutherland.catholic.edu.au
Just a reminder that students in Years 3 or 4 who are completing their 4th year of PRC will be eligible for their Gold Level PRC certificate in Term 4. A special congratulations to our many Year 3/4 students who have finished the challenge! We don’t want anyone to miss out - if your child has read 20 books since September 2025 they are eligible for their Gold Level certificate. PRC students in Yrs 5-6 are working towards their Platinum Certificate.
Each year, in recognition of their extra commitment to reading, our independent entrants in Yrs 3-6 are entered in a PRC raffle prize. Student Reading logs need to be entered by Friday 11th September.
However if your child has entered their Reading Log and had it validated by Mrs Wainwright by Friday 21st August they will be entered in the raffle which will be drawn at our Book Parade on Thursday 27th August.
