CLASSROOM NEWS!

Prep/1 Classroom News

It has been a very busy last few weeks of term and I would like to take this opportunity to say how proud we all are of our Prep students completing their first semester of their school lives! It is hard to believe that we are half way through the year and soon our little people will be Grade 1 and 2 students.

They have continued to work hard, all the way to the end of the term and they have certainly earned their two week break!

Literacy has been busy extending upon our sounds, letters, digraphs and sentence writing. We have had a lot of fun with a different style of writing activity this past week, whereby Mrs Lawson reads out a story orally and the students have had to listen to the details and then draw illustrations for each part of the story. The students will then build upon this by writing their own sentences to match their interpretation of the story. The purpose behind this is to teach students how to build ideas to develop a story that captures an audience.

In Mathematics this week, Prep and Grade 1 students have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes. We have had fun building an creating shapes using paper cut-outs and shape blocks. Later in the week, students will extend upon this by building some 3D shapes using straws and Bluetac. We will be discussing edges, vertices and faces.

Below are some photos of the students cooking session last week. They have been learning a lot of amazing culinary skills each fortnight with Mrs George, and always enjoy eating their goodies at the end of the session. This week they made Choc Chip cookies.
