Grade 6 WA

I can’t believe we are almost halfway through Term 4. It’s incredible to think that Grade 6’s are in their final term of primary school.

Grade 6 have had a busy start to term. We have almost finished our novel ‘Can you see me?’ by Libby Scott. This novel is about a girl called Tally who has autism and her struggles with starting secondary school. She navigates friendships, family relationships, and learns how to find her place in the world. Students have been very respectful and curious in our discussions about the text and understanding Tally’s point of view and how she experiences the world. Our last novel is called Nevermoor and is a fantasy adventure written by Jessica Townsend.

On November 11th, we will be attending the Remembrance Day service. Please keep an eye out for the permission forms which will come home soon.

In respectful relationships students we have been exploring help seeking strategies, so they know where to go to for help when things get tough. We did a fun drawing activity where we had to give drawing instructions to a person without them seeing us, which highlighted the importance of clear communication with others (and gave us a few laughs as we examined our pictures).

In Maths we are investigating data and creating our own investigations, by posing questions, gathering data and then presenting our findings.

Our topic for religion is ‘Living as disciples’. We have been learning about The Beatitudes, exploring their meaning and how they relate to our lives today.

As we move through this final term, I hope our Grade 6’s continue to enjoy every moment at Our Lady’s. It has been a privilege to be part of their journey. They have been active, kind and valued members of our school community, and it will be hard to say goodbye. Until then, we will continue to work and play hard.

Below are some photos of the students’ beautiful artwork they created with the talented Mrs Bennett - as well as a photo from our PJ and cookie fundraiser day late Term 3. Enjoy!
