JMSS Music Report: Term 3 Music Wrapped!

What an amazing term it has been for the many musicians of JMSS. Here are just some of the highlights:

  • Music Camp kicked off the term in style, filled with music-making, workshops, and community fun.

  • Battle of the Bands was a huge success! A special shout-out to the staff act, where teachers took on the roles of MI6 and Spectre Bond villains. Mr Mackinnon brought the house down as a soulful Bond, nailing the reggae verse, while Ms Bohni shone as Paul McCartney. Congratulations also to all the incredible student rock bands that performed - and a huge thanks to Tom, Rubette, and the entire Music Executive leadership team for running such a brilliant event.

  • Spring Soiree on Thursday 4th September showcased all school ensembles, presenting the wonderful repertoire developed in Semester Two. Performers included: Concert Band, Contemporary Band, String Quartet, Guitar Ensemble, Clarinet Choir, Jazz Carrots, Flute Ensemble, JMSS Choir, Chamber Choir, the VCE Ensemble, and Stage Band. The concert concluded with a stunning performance from the Catalyst Strings.

  • Concert Band Platinum Medal! On Monday 25th August, the JMSS Concert Band, directed by Dr Brigid Burke and Mr Sean Smyth, competed at the Victorian School Music Festival in the Intermediate Concert Band division - and proudly brought home a Platinum Medal! This is the first in our school’s history, and a massive achievement. Congratulations to all staff and students involved!
