Feast of the Assumption Mass

Friday, 14 August

The Feast of the Assumption is important for the Church because Mary is seen as the first disciple of Jesus, the Mother of the Church, and a model for all disciples. On this day we are reminded of one of our core beliefs as Catholics, that the body and soul of the Blessed Virgin Mary was taken into heaven after the end of her earthly life. Due to the actual Feast Day (15th of August) falling on Saturday, we are grateful for the opportunity to gather as a College community today to reflect on Mary’s role as a mother, a wife and a friend, reminding us to be thankful for our own mothers or mother figures.

Thank you to students, families and community members for joining us and to Fra Oscar, our student volunteers and all staff who assisted in preparing for and running this special Eucharistic celebration. May Mother Mary continue to be an example in our lives of how to say “yes” to helping whenever a need arises.
