Information Technology Manager Update

Dear Families, Students and Community Members,

We are pleased to share some exciting updates and achievements from across our school community.

New Arts, Media and Food Technology Centre

The demolition of our former EZ and Food Technology buildings has now been completed, and construction of our new Arts, Media and Food Technology Centre is well underway. The project is expected to take approximately 18 months to complete.

We look forward to seeing this exciting new facility take shape and, ultimately, provide our students with modern and inspiring spaces in which to learn and develop.

Mamma Mia! – A Wonderful School Community Achievement

It has been fantastic to see the incredible performances and the time, energy and commitment that went into our recent school musical, Mamma Mia!

Congratulations to all of our students and staff involved. Their hard work, enthusiasm and talent resulted in a wonderful production that was thoroughly enjoyed by our school community.

A special thank you also to the dedicated staff who worked behind the scenes to coordinate rehearsals, costumes, sets, music, performances and all the other elements required to bring the production to life. It was a fantastic example of our school community working together.

House Points Redemption Program

Our new House Points Redemption Program has been a great success. Students have enjoyed the opportunity to redeem their hard-earned House Points for prizes, providing an additional way to recognise positive behaviour.

Student Devices

As a BYOD school, Mordialloc College expects students to bring their device to school each day in good working order, fully charged and ready to use.

We have noticed an increase in students requesting loan devices at the beginning of the school day because their personal devices have not been charged. Ensuring devices are charged and ready each morning helps students to participate fully in their learning and minimises disruption to their classes.

We encourage families to support students in developing healthy and responsible digital habits at home, including establishing appropriate routines around device use, gaming and social media. Our SchoolTV parent resource provides a range of useful information and suggestions to help families support their children in managing their digital device use.

If your child is unable to bring their device to school—for example, because it is being repaired—please contact their Year Level Coordinator so that we can provide appropriate support.

We are also pleased to have our new device charging bay available for students to use during the school day. Due to the popularity and success of the first charging bay, we have purchased a second one to provide additional capacity for students.

eSafety and Cybersecurity

At Mordialloc College, eSafety and cybersecurity are important priorities. These topics are incorporated into our Home Group and Mentor programs, as well as our Digital Technologies curriculum. Our IT team also works actively to monitor and address issues relating to our school systems.

However, keeping young people safe online is a shared responsibility, and we encourage families to partner with us in supporting students to develop safe, responsible and respectful online behaviours.

We encourage parents and carers to have regular conversations with their children about the content they are viewing and engaging with online, the people they are communicating with, and how they can respond if something online makes them uncomfortable or concerned.

The eSafety Commissioner provides a range of webinars for parents and carers, guides and practical resources for parents and carers. Further information and resources are also available through our SchoolTV parent resource.

With cybersecurity incidents becoming increasingly common, we also encourage families to take some time to review the security of their online accounts. Simple steps such as using strong and unique passphrases, enabling multifactor authentication and keeping devices and software up to date can significantly improve online security.
