A Word from the Principal

Ms Kylie Campbell

A warm welcome to our community

Welcome to Spring this week!  It has been a wonderful start to my week after returning from long service leave.  I think I have missed a very cold winter back here in Victoria! It has been exciting to hear about our busy term 3 and the numerous activities that the students have been up to.  I was watching closely from outback Australia and  was very happy with how everything was running back at school.  Thank you to Mrs Rhemuer who backfilled my role and my wonderful staff who continued with our high expectations.

UV (Sun Smart) Policy

With the start of Spring our UV (Sun Smart policy) kicks in.  All students are now required to wear their hats out in the playground or anytime they are outside.  Due to the high UV we really need to ensure that we protect the students.  If students require sunscreen, then please apply at home before arriving at school.  Students are permitted to bring sunscreen to school however; they need to be able to apply the sunscreen to themselves without the assistance of teachers.

Father’s Day Stall

On the weekend, it will be Father’s Day!  Hopefully, you will take some time to celebrate the wonderful father figures in your life.

For the first time, Weeden Heights is hosting a Father’s Day breakfast on Friday 4 September.  A huge thanks to the PFA who organised this event.  I have been keen to have a breakfast to recognise Father’s Day for many years now and it is finally happening.  I really hope it is a great success and our families appreciate celebration through some quality time and conversation with the amazing males who influence each and every one of us.    A big thank you in advance to the parent volunteers who will support the PFA and our students to enjoy the morning activity.

I would also especially like to thank all our fabulous ‘father figures’ who are our dads, grandfathers, stepfathers, uncles and community members that continue to contribute to our school.  Thank you!  I really hope that all our families spend some quality time together to celebrate on the weekend! Happy Father’s Day!

Transition to Weeden Heights PS

Next week we will welcome our 2027 prep students and parents to Weeden Heights for their first transition session.  Each student will be given a t-shirt promoting the school in their first session which will connect them to our school and develop a sense of belonging.  Please make any new faces in our playground welcome by saying hello!  It makes a huge difference for nervous parents with first born children starting school (you all know what that is like!).

Annual Parent Survey

Thank you to the parents who have already participated in the annual DE parent survey.  We have had 14 parents respond to date.  The last day to complete the survey is Friday 18 September.  All families were sent a survey link via an email and I always offer the survey to all the Weeden Heights PS families as we value your opinion and thoughts. If you have a moment, we would greatly appreciate your input as the data does count towards .

Planning  for 2027

Preparations for 2027 are well underway and my leadership team are considering exciting developments for the school.  I continue to need your support so that the I can make the best decisions for the school.

If you intend leaving Weeden Heights and your children will be starting at another school next year, can you please let me know, in writing, so that we can make the necessary adjustments to our calculations.

Please do not leave it to the last minute to indicate your intentions as it does have a profound effect on the proposed budget.   Having accurate student enrolments is critical in establishing a sound  and balanced budget.

The last day of term 3 is Friday 18 September and officially school will finish at 2.30pm.  Please remember that if you can’t pick your child up at 2.30pm then please book them in for OSHC in our hall.

Parents are of course welcome to attend the assembly that will commence at 9.05 am.    There will be several end of term special awards and presentations.

Please take care, stay safe and enjoy your holiday break.

Until next time……
