My Brother Jack Awards
As we have previously noted, the My Brother Jack Awards are a fantastic initiative by the Glen Eira libraries. This writing competition is open to students who live or attend school in the Glen Eira area.
Last year two of our wonderful students were shortlisted, and we are hoping for some further success this year! Entries in this competition have now closed, but a large amount of our students from Year One to year Six have made entries, some students entering more than once.
We will need to wait until late August to see how we have gone in this competition, but reading through and submitting all of these stories has been a super joyous activity. Our students have done so well!
We will wait to see how the competition goes and look forward to posting some full stories later in the term, but for now please enjoy some teasers from our students work that was submitted!
Book Week
We are moving in to August, and that means one of the best times of the Year, CBCA Book Week!
2026's theme is titled Symphony of Stories!
We always thoroughly enjoy celebrating Book Week at St Anthony's, and not to worry plenty of information about what will be taking place will be sent out closer to the time. Please find a brief summary below however:
Wednesday the 19th of August - Author Visit!
This year we will host Jo Dabrowski, who will speak to each of our classes about writing styles and the books she has published. You can see some of her books here!
Monday the 24th of August to Friday the 28th of August - Book Week!
Schools and kinders across Australia will celebrate Book Week at this time. Our classes will complete special activities and learning following our Book Week theme.
During this week and in the lead up, we will have a number of Book Week Competitions. These will be both design and writing competitions, which are not only a heap of fun to take part in, but we celebrate some of our very best entries with some prizes.
On the Friday of Book Week, the 24th of August, we will have our dress up parade and presentation of prizes. This is always so much fun!
Mrs Simic in the library would also like to pass on that orders of $30 or more from Book Club receive a $10 gift voucher for Spotlight, which might help find the perfect costume for our parade!
Tuesday the 1st of September to Friday the 4th of September - Lamont Book Fair
We will again host a Lamont Book Fair on these dates, where our library is transformed into a wonderful book store! Lamont will deliver a lovely selection of reasonably priced books for all ages, with sales directly contributing to our school.
We cannot wait to celebrate all of these awesome things this term! The best part as always will be seeing the engagement and beeming smiles from our students.
