Grandparents and Special Friends ... GOSH we LOVE them!

I know we are a community that loves ‘a-get-together’…. and one of the most treasured celebrations in our school calendar is Grandparents and Special Friends Day. 

I have had a couple of parents ask, "Why have a mass when we could just have our Grandparents and Special Friends straight to classrooms? "

Whilst we always look forward to welcoming our visitors into our classrooms and sharing time together, we must make sure we begin our celebration of our Grandparents and Special Friends, where all Catholic celebrations begin – with the Holy Mass.

The Eucharist is the source and summit of our Christian life. As we gather, we unite as one school community in prayer and thanksgiving, giving thanks to God for the many people who nurture, encourage and accompany our young people throughout their lives.

Parents are the first and foremost educators of our young people in faith and life and yet .... grandparents, special friends, extended family members and our wider faith community support this sacred vocation through their wisdom, love, encouragement and faithful witness.  

This wisdom, love, encouragement was extremely evident within our Mass, as our young people joined their families and later on...across all of our classrooms!!  A huge thank you to all of our visitors and SHA for sharing a very special morning with our school community and thank you God for the glorious sunshine for our shared morning tea.

Celebrating the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop

On the 8th of August every year, we celebrate the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, Australia's first and only Catholic saint. 

Today, our ES1 students used the readings for Saturday's mass to urge all of us to celebrate a woman whose faith, courage and dedication continues to inspire Catholic education today.

Mary MacKillop believed that every child deserved the opportunity to learn, regardless of their background or where they lived.  Together with Fr Julian Tenison-Woods, she founded the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart.  

She and her Sisters established schools throughout rural and remote Australia so that free or affordable Catholic education was provided for every child.

Places where children could receive both an education and experience the love of Christ. 

My first Catholic teaching position was in a Josephite school (Sacred Heart School in Corryong) where her words, "Never see a need without doing something about it,"  were lived to the full.

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop’s words still challenge us daily to live with compassion, courage and generosity. 

At St Mary of the Angels we are grateful for her enduring legacy and strive to follow her example by nurturing each child's faith, learning and wellbeing, while ensuring every student knows they are valued and loved.

May St Mary of the Cross MacKillop continue to pray for our school community as we seek to serve others with faith, hope and love.

Father O'Shea Holidays 

School masses will be altered during the period of 17th August to 14th September, as Father O'Shea takes well deserved holidays! The Stage One Mass on Friday 28th August will now be run as a liturgy in the church and our class confession times have been rescheduled to when Father returns.

Whole School Masses

We warmly invite families to join us in celebrating our whole school Masses with our young people.

• Tuesday 8th September: Wk 8 - Stage Three- The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin

Parish Mass Times

Please join our Parish to celebrate the Eucharist. Our Parish offers daily masses at 9:00am and two Mass times every weekend. 

Saturday - 5.00pm (now Winter has commenced)

Sunday - 9.00am
