Weekly Values Focus

Respect

Week 2: Footscray West students are active listeners

At our school, we show respect by being active and thoughtful listeners. Listening helps us understand others, learn new ideas, and shows that we care about what people have to say. When we listen carefully, we give our attention fully — with our eyes, our ears, and our hearts.

We show that we are listening by tracking the speaker and showing interest through our expressions. We pay attention when our teacher is talking, when classmates share their thoughts, and during assemblies and presentations. Being a good listener also means asking questions if we are unsure and waiting for the right moment to share our own ideas. Listening well helps everyone feel heard and valued.

This week, notice how you listen. Are you showing with your body that you’re paying attention? Do you give space for others to share? Do you ask thoughtful questions when something isn’t clear? Listening carefully shows respect for everyone’s voice.
