Clay Target Shooting - Colac

On Wednesday, 29 April, we travelled to Colac for the first event of our clay target season. We were back-to-back champions for this event and eager to make it three in a row.

The weather for the day was beautiful with sunny skies and not a breath of wind, providing by far the best shooting conditions we had seen at Colac over the years. With far fewer shooters than in previous years, the day was over and done with rather quickly.

All shooters tried their best, but we only had one podium position for the day - congratulations to Anabelle Funcke, who came second in senior girls.

Although we were unsuccessful in bringing the home the trophy, we have a young team with great energy and love for the sport. We look forward to watching the growth over the season.

If you are interested in joining the team or need further information, please speak with Mr Burmeister.

On Monday, 4 May, the College First XVIII travelled to Pedrina Park to take on Monivae College and Bayview in a round-robin competition. College came in full of ambition for the day ahead, but also aware that we were short on players due to many injuries from local footy.

The first game was against Monivae. College came out strong in the contest; however, Monivae took an early lead. Despite a small surge late in the first half that cut the deficit to two goals, College finished the game with a 37-13 loss. Best players were Oli Credlin, Liam Dwyer and Finn Dennis.

College then took on Bayview, which looked to be a promising game for the boys, whilst the weather approaching looked rather ominous. The boys quickly hit the front, and Bayview struggled to catch up. The boys played in good spirits with a team-first approach. Coming away victors 32 to 5, cementing our place in the grand final. The best players were Liam Dwyer, Will Bourke and Angus Heazlewood.

Once again, we were up against  Monivae, which was shaping up to be a challenging game as the heavy rain began. A big thank you to Monivae for offering us some players to help balance the competition, which was greatly appreciated.

College players showed plenty of talent and sportsmanship, but we were outperformed by the tough opposition, with a disappointing final score: Monivae 79 to 14 College. The best players were Oli Cerdlin, Sam Osullivan and George Prosser.

Overall, I’m proud of the boys and the way they represented themselves and College. Never giving up through difficult periods in the games and always supporting their teammates. A highlight from the day was Will Satchel’s goal, kicking a beautiful torp from the pocket on the run. I would like to mention Liam Dywer, Oli Credlin and Will Bourke, who were the best players across the day, providing the team with plenty of skills, goals and strong intercept marks. I’d also like to thank Miss Andrews and Mr Golding for helping me on game day and at training.

This week proved another success for the Division One College Women's team, winning 2-1 against Dunkeld Red. Goal scorers for the game were Claudia and Bella, with the forward line being held strong together by Chloe, Rosie and Grace. Defence was strong with Sophie, Jess and Hannah providing a good barrier against Dunkeld’s best players. Looking forward to the next round against Dunkeld Blue.

The Division One Men's team had a close match against the Rams with a fast, open game. They lost 4-5 but had a vastly improved performance after their previous game. Goal scorers included the captain, Charlie Hawthorne, scoring 2, Reuben Hays and Taylor Hayley. The men’s team found more runs and improved, with quicker ball movement to teammates as the game went on.
