Car Park Management Plan

Further to my letter in March 2025, we have been working with the Department of Education, Brimbank Council and Jackson School Council to review our Car Park / Traffic Management Plan. Please see our updated plan online at: https://newsletters.naavi.com/i/JeElZDJ

We have now received the external OHS Risk Assessment - Traffic Management Report and Action Plan from Marsh to provide us advice on how we can improve the safe flow of traffic in our front car park to ensure the safety of staff, students and our families.

Please find below a list of the recommendations we are adopting with immediate effect to our afternoon student collection procedures. Please note, some of the measures have already been actioned in Term 1 and do not change our current processes.

When the front car park pick-up/drop-off bays are full, we will close the electronic entry gates to avoid congestion in the front car park. The entry gates will be automatically programmed to close between 2:15pm and 3:00pm. Only allocated staff will be given permissions to open the gate for emergencies only.
We remind families that it is not permitted under local traffic laws to stop or park on a crossover, block the footpaths and parking in no standing zones. Please note, Brimbank Council have and will continue to issue infringement fines to drivers who breech local traffic laws. In Victoria, as of 1 July 2025 (the current financial year), each penalty unit is valued at $203.51. The penalty for an obstruction offence is 4 penalty units. Therefore, the total infringement fine for this obstruction offence is $814.04.
We thank families for your ongoing efforts to park in the neighbouring streets and walk into the school grounds using the crossing supervisor. The Car Parking Management Plan review for the local area will proceed to the next stage with Brimbank Council on 12th August 2025. Thank you to all the community members who lodged their views.
Under Department of Education policy guidelines, staff and families are not permitted to direct traffic in the front car park. Staff will continue to be available in the mornings and afternoons to support students where required.
We will undertake works to increase safety in the front car park, including: tree felling to reduce visual obstructions, increased signage and traffic controls (speed humps).

To reduce the amount of vehicles at student collection time, if you would like to access the free Student Disability Transport Program (SDTP) bus please contact the school office.

We thank you for your ongoing cooperation and understanding as we manage the increasing demand for car parking within our community. The safety of our students, staff and families when onsite remains our continued priority.

Student Support Group (SSGs) Parent-Teacher Meetings

Thank you to all families who participated in our Parent-Teacher Student Support Group (SSG) Meetings this week. The purpose of the SSGs are to establish a strong home-school relationship, complete your child's Individual Education Plan & Jackson Learner Profile and review progress against your child's “Long Term” goals. The Term 3 SSGs are also an opportunity to discuss your child's Individual Learning Plan Goals for Semester 2.

Following your SSG your child's teacher will finalise your child's Semester 2 Individual Learning Plan (ILP). These will be emailed to families once they are published and will also be available on Xuno for you to access anytime. We aim to have every child’s parent or carer meet with the classroom teacher to discuss the learning of each child. If you have not yet had an opportunity to make an appointment to meet with your child's teacher, please contact them directly on SeeSaw to make a time. Parent, Carers and Guardian Opinion Survey

Our school will be conducting a survey to find out what parents, caregivers and guardians think of our school. The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. A random sample of approximately 30 per cent of parents / caregivers / guardians has been selected to participate in this year’s survey. If you have been chosen to participate and complete the survey, you will go into a draw to win a $50 Woolworths voucher.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open from 18th August to 19th September. If you have been randomly selected to complete the PCGOS you will be contacted directly.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the survey period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. If you would like access to a computer, then please let the school office know. The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

Bullying No Way - 'Be bold. Be kind. Speak up'

Bullying No Way Week is returning 11–15th August 2025. Bullying No Way Week is Australia's key bullying prevention initiative for schools. It provides an opportunity for schools to create a shared understanding about bullying behaviours and share their bullying prevention policies and strategies.

Bullying is everyone's responsibility. It takes a community to be brave and address bullying behaviours, within and beyond the school gate. Students can be bold, kind and take a stand to support others being bullied. In our community and in our school, we want a place where everyone can belong, a place that celebrates everyone, and where bullying is never accepted. This Bullying No Way Week, we're asking students, schools, families and communities to be bold and say something, be kind and support someone, and be proud to take a stand against bullying.
