Student Achievement and Recognition

I am delighted to share some wonderful news about one of our students. Congratulations to Aika O (Year 2) who has received a prestigious award for her essay titled “Three Primary Schools.” Aika wrote the essay in Japanese in June 2025 and submitted it to the 46th Japanese Literature Essay Competition for Japanese children living overseas.

This international competition is organised by the Japan Overseas Educational Services under the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

We were recently informed that Aika’s essay, “Three Primary Schools,” was selected as the Best Essay from an incredible 31,937 entries submitted by Japanese students living around the world. This is a truly remarkable achievement and something of which Aika and her family should be extremely proud.

In her essay, Aika reflected on her experiences at St Michael’s, including Pippa Sensei’s Japanese classes and the Japan Day celebration held at our school in May. She wrote beautifully about the multicultural, diverse and caring environment that makes St Michael’s such a special place to learn.

We are incredibly proud of Aika’s success and grateful that her experience at St Michael’s has been such a positive one. On behalf of our entire school community, I congratulate Aika on this outstanding achievement.
