News from Bexley, our school Wellbeing Dog.

Welcome back to Term 2, everyone! I hope your holidays were full of fun and relaxation.

I certainly had a wonderful time with lots of adventures. I even got a fancy new haircut.

I also popped into school with Miss Dullard to check on the vegetables each class has been growing. You’ll get to see them during your Permaculture lessons this week!

In the second week, I was very lucky to be looked after by Miss Kirkpatrick, who took such great care of me. Miss Geary came to visit too, which made me so happy. I feel so grateful to be part of such a kind and caring St Mary’s community. I can’t wait to see all your smiling faces when I’m back at school next week.

As I spend more time interacting with you it’s important that we all help me feel safe and calm. When I’m walking somewhere around the school with a staff member, please remember my three expectations: I don’t hear my name being called, no eye contact and no sudden movements or people coming too close. If I’m busy playing, resting or having some quiet time, please keep moving so I can feel that my environment is predictable and safe. When I feel safe, I can enjoy more time with you all!

It’s important that people don’t come into my space or touch me whenever they feel like it. If everyone did this, it would make it hard for me to stay calm. When you see me with a staff member, please simply ask them first before approaching me as there will be lots of opportunities to interact with me if you would like to.

Thank you for helping me feel safe and happy.
