Year 6 Confirmation Retreat Day

On Friday, our Confirmation candidates took part in a special retreat day held at St John’s Primary School, alongside students from St James. The day offered a valuable opportunity for students to reflect on their faith, prepare spiritually for the Sacrament of Confirmation, and connect with others on the same journey. A highlight of the day was the time spent with Bishop Les Tomlinson, who generously shared his insights and a wealth of knowledge about the lives of the Saints. His reflections were especially meaningful, as they related to the Saints our students have chosen for their Confirmation names. It was a day of learning, reflection and inspiration, and we are proud of how our students engaged so thoughtfully throughout the experience.

Sunday's Gospel - Luke 13-21- The Parable of  the Rich Fool

In this parable, Jesus tells the story of a man who stores up wealth for himself, building bigger barns to hold his possessions, thinking he will then be able to 'eat, drink and be merry.' God calls him a fool, saying, “This very night your life will be demanded from you.” The story ends with a poignant warning: “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”

This parable invites us to reflect on the difference between having and being, between storing up treasures on earth and living with generosity, purpose, and faith.

As a community  I wonder...

  • What does it mean for us to be “rich toward God” in our daily lives?
  • In what ways are we tempted to build our own “bigger barns”—in our ambitions, our habits, or our choices?
  • How can we help our students and one another focus not only on achievement, but on compassion, gratitude and service?
  • What does enough look like—and how might contentment help us see others more clearly?

Let us be reminded that true wealth is found not in what we accumulate, but in how we live, love and serve one another.
