Welcome

Wawa, Wominjika.
Here at Old Orchard Primary School, we acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we visit each day, the Wurrunguri and Woiwurrung people of the Kulin nation. We acknowledge and respect the elders and leaders past and present and the elders and leaders of all of the cultures and nationalities that are part of the Old Orchard Primary School community. We express our gratitude towards the orchards that were kept in place by the peoples on this land before us. We thank the traditional owners for sharing this beautiful land that we all love, and for keeping the land, sky, waterways and animals all in great condition for thousands of years, not only for themselves but for all the generations to come.
Book Week
We have thoroughly enjoyed celebrating Book Week, with the highlights being the Book Parade on Monday and today's Book Walk, where students signed up to hear a picture story book read by teachers across the school. The costumes on display at the Book Parade were sensational: very colourful, creative and fun! Thanks to everyone who participated and to families who supported their children in preparing for the event.
Emergency Management - Safety Drills
As an important element of our commitment to student wellbeing and safety, we conduct regular safety drills that include evecuations, lockdowns and smaller ‘situation responses’ such as a medical episode, a significant injury, etc. We have two drills scheduled across the coming week; staff will provide students with advance notice that drills will be occurring but will not necessarily provide them with details. (This will vary slightly depending on the age of the students).
Parent / Carer Opinion Survey
Thank-you to the families who have responded to the Parent / Carer Opinion Survey. The current response rate is 24% (71 families), which is actually quite pleasing compared to previous years. The survey remains open until September 18th and we would love to hear from more families. You can access the survey via the link sent in an earlier communication.
End of Term 3
A reminder that Term 3 concludes on Friday September 18th at 2.30pm. There will be a whole school assembly in the Gymnasium, commencing at 1.50pm.
Term 4 commences on Monday October 5th.
Warm regards
Duncan
Attendance Update
Another fantastic week of attendance at Old Orchard! Last week, our whole-school attendance was 94.27%, which means we have now achieved over 94% attendance every week this term. What an incredible effort and achievement!
Ginger has also been busy welcoming students at the start of the day and thanking them for arriving at school on time. Keep an eye out for Ginger at the front gates in the mornings!
Thanks to our Old Orchard families for continuing to support regular attendance and punctuality. Every day counts!
If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s attendance, please contact Adam at adam.todd@education.vic.gov.au.
