Soccer and Netball Gala Day Success - Inverell
What a day of teamwork and sportsmanship! Yesterday, eight of our soccer and netball teams traveled to Inverell for the Armidale Catholic Schools Northern Cluster Gala Day, and by all accounts, our students had an absolute blast competing with their peers.
We saw incredible effort and some fantastic results!
- Our Glen Guppies soccer team finished as runner-up in their Junior division pool—a brilliant achievement!
- The Glen Giraffes netball team dominated, winning their Open pool. They advanced to a thrilling final, showing grit and determination before ultimately falling to a strong Armidale side. We couldn't be prouder of their effort!
This day wouldn't have been possible without the extraordinary support of our community.
We owe a massive debt of gratitude to a group of wonderful past St. Joey's students—Abigail Pietsch, Danyela Bailey, Paige Floyd, Zoe McAllister, and Harriet van der Waal—who volunteered their time to umpire the netball games. Your generosity allowed our parents and teachers to focus on other roles and enjoy watching the excellent netball on display.
Once again, our current parents and guardians delivered! An immense thank you to our coaches and helpers: Kristen Bailey, Kylie Neville, Jane van der Waal, Narelle Pietsch, Jess Newberry, Tara Looker, Lucy Jones, Fiona Poschelk, and Brendon and Nicole Watson. Thank you for making time in your busy schedules—we are truly grateful for your efforts.
And finally, to our incredible staff! While I was busy convening the netball, the day ran seamlessly thanks to the dedication of Sarah Smith, Karen Marshall, Emma Newberry, Libby Little, Shanny Core, Michelle Tarrant, and Karen Fletcher. Thank you for going above and beyond to ensure our students arrived safely, competed happily, and were in such safe and competent hands all day long.
Grandparents’ Day
What a beautiful day we had on Wednesday with our grandparents. Since we were not able to hold an athletics carnival this year, we decided to incorporate some fun activities into the day which included foot races, tabloid games and the Joey’s Gift.
The following students were the finalists in the Joey’s Gift:
5 years - Craig Jones
6 years - Baxter Gray
7 years - Hugo Davis
8 years - Leo Colley
9 years - Theodore Clifton
10 years - Matilda Schalk
11 years - Brooke Graham
12 years - Jimmy Chard
Congratulations to Leo Colley who took out our 2025 Joey’s Gift!
Our Spirit of Joey’s Awards for excellent sportsmanship and effort were awarded to:
Henry Parker and Lilly Price for Mackillop.
Chase Gelhaar and Cotton Gray for Fitzroy
Max Smyth and Charlotte Neville for Penola
Thank you to our school and house captains for all your help on the day along with our amazing staff and P&F committee to help make our day so enjoyable. Finally a special mention goes to our Grandparents for attending on Wednesday and especially for your participation in the staff v’s captains v’s grandparents Captain Ball race. You are great sports!
Nugent Sisters Shine at Australian Interschool National Championships
