Sacred Heart Primary School
Message from the
School Principal
Dear Sacred Heart families,

When I began my teaching career in 1988 in a little school called Mother of God Primary School, Ardeer, teaching was simpler. Planning lessons for the children in my Year 4/5 class of 29 children was less rigorous, less informed by evidence and less collaborative, although still filled with a passion for teaching, love of my students and good intentions. And I don't recall World Teachers' Day being a thing.
Today is World Teachers' Day and it is a day where we can pause and take a moment to reflect on the important role that teachers play in the lives of our children each and every day. I have worked in schools for many years and worked with many outstanding educators and the teachers who work at Sacred Heart are right up there with the best of them. We are blessed to have a dedicated team of teachers and support staff who bring such care, commitment and passion to their work each day. Through the relationships they build, the learning experiences they create and the encouragement they offer, our educators make a lasting difference in the lives of our students.
On behalf our students and parent community, I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to our educators for the countless ways you help every child feel known, valued and inspired to learn and flourish. We are deeply grateful for all that you do and for the difference you make in our Sacred Heart community.

As we approach the end of the school year, our educators begin planning class groupings for the year ahead. This process involves careful consideration of each child’s learning, social and wellbeing needs, alongside friendship connections and the dynamics between students. Our aim is to create balanced classes where every child feels supported, connected and well placed to thrive in their learning.
We value the insights that parents and carers bring, recognising the important role you play in understanding your child’s individual needs. If there is anything you would like us to consider as we plan for next year, please feel welcome to email your child’s teacher, Erin (estone@shnewport.catholic.edu.au, Rosy (rcubero@shnewport.catholic.edu.au) or myself (kcarlin@shnewport.catholic.edu.au). While we cannot always accommodate individual requests, please be assured that all information shared with us will be thoughtfully considered as part of the class formation process.
Over the last fortnight, I shared with you a letter providing information about the school fees and levies for 2027. As communicated in earlier newsletters, all Catholic schools in the Melbourne Archdiocese who were not already using this model will do so from the start of the 2027 school year.
Please see below a letter from our MACS Executive Director, Dr Ed Simons, to all school communities in the Melbourne Archdiocese.

A reminder that this weekend is a long weekend for Sacred Heart students. Monday is a dedicated Time In Lieu day for staff, as per the CEMEA Award 2022. On Wednesday, our educators will come together for a dedicated day of professional learning and school improvement planning. Throughout the day, we will reflect on and evaluate the work undertaken across the school in 2026 in relation to the goals and priorities outlined in our Annual Action Plan. This provides an important opportunity to celebrate our progress, consider the impact of our initiatives on student learning and wellbeing and identify areas for further growth. We will also use these reflections to establish our improvement priorities and set clear targets for 2027, ensuring that our work continues to be purposeful, evidence-informed and focused on achieving the best possible outcomes for every student.
Have a great long weekend!
Yours in faith,
Kaylene
