Hoop Time Basketball: On Wednesday 6th September, 62 of our year 3/4 students participated in Junior Hoop time Basketball at Dandenong Stadium. Hoop Time is run by Basketball Victoria at various venues across Victoria and has been going strong for over 35 years.

We had 9 teams compete across different grades from All-Star Boys, All-Star Girls, Future Stars (mixed) and Rookie (mixed) teams. We played schools from different areas around Melbourne and participated in round-robin games consisting of 1x13 min games. We had some wonderful results and two teams made the finals in the afternoon.

Well done to our All-Star Boys #1 team who came 3rd overall and played The Basin PS in the semi-finals. Unfortunately, they lost 7-0 and were knocked out. Congratulations to our All-Star Girls team who came 2nd overall after the rounds and played Templeton PS in the semi-finals. The girls were very solid in defense turning the ball over and won the semi-final by 2 points. The girls then had to immediately play Lysterfield PS in the grand final. Unfortunately, they lost 14-0 but showed lots of team spirit and determination. It was a huge day of basketball and lots of tired bodies by the end of the day!

Last Tuesday, year 5/6 students competed in Senior Hoop Time Basketball at Dandenong Stadium. We had 8 teams compete across the different grades. All our teams did exceptionally well and thoroughly enjoyed the Hoop Time experience. Our All-Star Boys #1 team came 4th overall in a very competitive draw and lost in the semi-finals to St Cecilia’s Catholic PS by 4 points.

Our All-Star Girls team finished on top of their ladder and played off in the grand final. They won the grand final against St. Jude’s PS by 6 points! A massive effort, congratulations to our ASG team. The ASG team will now go on to region finals in October.

Congratulations to all students from years 3 to 6 who participated in Hoop Time Basketball. I am very proud of your effort, determination, enthusiasm and for showing positive sporting behaviour on the court. You supported and encouraged each other from the sidelines and demonstrated our POPS values.

‘MASSIVE THANK YOU’ to all the parents who assisted as coaches, team managers and scorers for both our Junior and Senior Hoop Time Basketball program. Your help is very much appreciated, we can not run these programs without you. Also a big thank you to all the parents who came to support our POPS teams and to the teachers who assisted.
