RE News

I hope everyone had a wonderful Holy and Happy Easter celebration with family and friends.  May the hope, joy and promise of Easter remain with us as we live, learn and work together this term.

Vale Pope Francis

As many of you will have heard, Pope Francis died on Easter Monday.  He was an ever-faithful servant of the global Catholic community and has left a lasting impression on us all.  The first Jesuit Pope, the first South American Pope, the first Pope to wash prisoners' feet and I believe the first motor bike riding Pope.  Thank you for your devoted, selfless and generous service to all, Pope Francis.  Please keep his family, friends and all the Catholic community in your thoughts and prayers as we celebrate the life and work of Pope Francis and await the white smoke, signaling our new Pope.

Making Jesus Real

Towards the end last term, you may have noticed posters around the school promoting Making Jesus Real.  When the program was first introduced in the school, in the early 2000’s, it was part of the Social Emotional Learning, through a Catholic lens.  Currently in the Victorian Curriculum, the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships learning materials are implemented to develop students social, emotional and positive relationship skills. Making Jesus Real compliments this learning by providing students with an authentic example of how they can live out their faith authentically and justly.

Making Jesus Real encourages students and staff to notice, name and celebrate members of our community who live out the message of the Gospels and Make Jesus Real through their actions, words, decisions and interactions with others.

Students and staff can anonymously nominate students they observe are making Jesus real.  Each Wednesday, 5 names will be randomly drawn from the nominations box and these students or staff members will be our Making Jesus Real Ambassadors for the week.  They will receive a badge they can wear. The following Wednesday morning, the badges will be returned to the office for the next group of ambassadors to wear.  All nominees will be recognised in the school newsletter and via Audiri.

I would like to especially thank our MLA God Squad students for their enthusiasm and support relaunching Making Jesus Real.

Alleluia Day Celebrations

On the first day back for term, there was a lovely buzz about the school as students and teachers returned to learning and teaching, celebrating Easter and relaunching Making Jesus Real. We gathered as a school community to participate in a prayer service to celebrate Easter.  Thank you to all of the students, staff and families for making this such a beautiful time of reflection and celebration.
