Galilee School News

Dear Families,

As we come to the end of Term 2, there is much to celebrate across our Galilee community. The final weeks of term have been filled with learning, faith, creativity, sport and many opportunities for students and families to connect with one another.

Thank you to our families for your ongoing support throughout a busy and productive term. We are grateful for the many ways you partner with us, whether through attending school events, supporting learning at home, volunteering, encouraging your children or simply staying connected with school life.

Last Day of Term 2 and Socceroos Celebration

Tomorrow, Friday 26 June is the final day of Term 2. Students will finish at 1:30pm.

To celebrate, students are invited to wear green and gold as we celebrate Australia’s World Cup match against Paraguay. Students may also wear Paraguay colours or another soccer top to celebrate this special day.

The match will be shown tomorrow on the big screen in the stadium from 12pm. Families are reminded that students still need to be collected at 1:30pm. Families are invited to stay and watch the game from 1:30pm. Please note, parents are responsible for supervising their own children from 1:30pm tomorrow.

Confirmation Family Faith Night

Last Thursday 18 June, our Year 6 students and families gathered for Confirmation Family Faith Night in the Stadium. This was an important opportunity for families to come together in preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

The evening supported students to reflect on the gifts of the Holy Spirit, the meaning of Confirmation and the important role their families play in their faith journey. Thank you to the families who attended and to Marcus Page, Paddy Edwards, Harvey Bidmade along with Fr. Paul and Fr. John who helped prepare for and support the evening.

We look forward to continuing to walk alongside our Year 6 students as they prepare for this significant step in their faith lives.

Music Soiree

Last night we celebrated our amazing instrumental students at our Music Soiree. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to share their musical learning with families and friends.

Events such as this are a reminder of the confidence, creativity and persistence students develop through the Performing Arts. Performing in front of an audience takes courage, preparation and a willingness to have a go. We are proud of all students involved and grateful to the staff and families who have supported their preparation.

Thank you to Trent, Richard and Leonard our instramental teachers and to everyone who came along to support our students. We hope families enjoy celebrating the talents of our students.

Scholastic Book Fair

For the past two weeks we have had the Scholastic Book Fair at Galilee. It has been fantastic to see the excitement of students as they explored new books, revisited favourite authors and talked with friends about what they might like to read next.

Thank you to the families who have supported the Book Fair before and after school. Opportunities like this help build a strong reading culture and encourage students to see books as a source of enjoyment, imagination and learning. Today was the last day for the Book Fair.

Local Catholic Principals Visit Galilee

Last week, we were delighted to welcome a large group of Principals from local Catholic primary schools to Galilee for a tour of our school and an opportunity to see learning and teaching in action. Early in the day, our visitors toured our classrooms, providing an opportunity for us to share our practice and celebrate the wonderful learning taking place across our school. The Principals also spent time together participating in professional development in our Year 3K classroom, further strengthening opportunities for collaboration and professional learning across our local Catholic school community. It was a privilege to open our doors and showcase our amazing students, staff and community with colleagues from local Catholic schools, and we were proud to receive such positive feedback about the vibrant learning environments and warm culture that make Galilee such a special place.

Maths Games Club

Maths Games Club has continued for students in Years 3–6, giving students a chance to explore problem-solving in a fun and social way.

Through games, puzzles and challenges, students are learning to think flexibly, explain their reasoning and try different strategies. It has been encouraging to see students working together, learning from one another and enjoying Mathematics in a different setting.

Maths Games Club will continue to be held on Wednesdays in the library from 1:40pm to 2:10pm.

Semester One Student Reports

As Semester One comes to a close, staff have spent significant time reflecting on student learning, growth and next steps. Student reports provide families with an overview of achievement across key learning areas, as well as insight into each child’s progress throughout the semester. Semester One student reports are now available on Nforma.

We encourage families to take time to read reports with their child, celebrate areas of growth and talk together about future learning goals.

Thank you to our teachers for the care and professionalism they bring to this process. Congratulations to all our students for their hard work this semester.

Please see the link below, to the letter that was sent to all families regarding Semester One Student Reports and how to access them.

Netball in our Stadium

We are pleased to share that a local adult netball competition has commenced using our stadium on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. We are excited to welcome members of our local community to our school facilities and see our stadium being used as a space for connection, sport and participation beyond the school day. We look forward to building positive partnerships with our local sporting community and supporting opportunities for people of all ages to be involved in physical activity.

Child Safe Standard 5

At Galilee we are committed to creating an environment where every child feels safe, included and respected. Child Safe Standard 5 focuses on equity and diversity, ensuring that all students, regardless of background, identity or personal circumstances can participate fully in school life.

Together, we continue to build a school community where every child is valued, supported and able to thrive.

Year 2 Excursion to Twisted Science

Today, our Year 2 students had an exciting and engaging excursion to Twisted Science, where they had the opportunity to put their term’s learning in Science into action. Through a range of hands-on activities and experiments, students were able to apply their knowledge, explore scientific concepts in new ways, and extend their understanding through practical experiences. It was wonderful to see their curiosity, enthusiasm and problem-solving skills on display as they investigated, questioned and discovered throughout the day. A big thank you to our Year 2 teachers for organising such a valuable learning experience and to the parent volunteers who generously gave their time to support our students and help make the day such a success.

Staffing Update

As you would be aware, our Art teacher, Linda Florenca Grillo, has spent some time away from school this year as she continues her recovery following a cancer diagnosis last year. While Linda has missed being at school and spending time with the students in Art, she has needed this time to focus on her health and wellbeing.

Linda has informed us that she will also need to spend Term 3 at home continuing her recovery. We are currently in the process of securing a replacement Art teacher for Term 3 and will communicate this appointment with families as soon as possible.

In the meantime, we ask our community to please keep Linda in your thoughts and prayers as she continues her recovery. We look forward to welcoming Linda back to Galilee in Term 4 and having her return to the Art classroom with our students.
