Queensland Schools State Cross Country Championships

Xavier Hunter took on one of the toughest challenges on the Queensland Schools calendar by completing the demanding 6km Under 16 Boys course at the recent Queensland Schools State Cross Country Championships.

With strong winds sweeping across the course and an exceptionally high-quality field, comparable to national championship standard, Xavier produced another composed and courageous performance to finish 18th in Queensland.

The result continues Xavier's impressive season and provides valuable momentum as he prepares to represent Queensland at the Athletics Australia National Cross Country Championships in Ballarat later this year. Congratulations to Xavier on another outstanding performance at the highest level of school cross country.

Kyrah Breay Earns Queensland Selection in Equestrian

We congratulate Kyrah Breay on her outstanding achievement of being invited to represent Queensland at the National Interschool Equestrian Championships.

Kyrah's selection follows a week that tested not only her riding ability, but also her resilience and horsemanship. After her horse, Zoe, developed a serious leg infection, Kyrah was forced to withdraw from the dressage phase. Despite the disappointment, she devoted countless hours to Zoe's care and rehabilitation, ensuring she was well enough to return for the Show Horse competition.

Demonstrating remarkable perseverance, Kyrah went on to finish 17th in Combined Training in a field of 24 competitors and produced a series of consistent performances in the Show Horse classes, placing 6th in each class and 6th overall.

Being selected to wear the maroon of Queensland is a fitting reward for Kyrah's dedication, sportsmanship and unwavering commitment to her horse. The Clayfield College community congratulates Kyrah on this well-deserved honour and wishes her every success as she prepares to compete on the national stage.

Senior School Interhouse Athletics Carnival - House Spirit Takes Centre Stage

The 2026 Clayfield College Interhouse Athletics Carnival transformed the University of Queensland Athletics Centre into a sea of colour, energy and House pride, with students embracing a memorable day of competition, camaraderie and celebration.

From the moment the students arrived, the atmosphere was electric. The annual Senior Fashion Parade set the tone, showcasing creativity, House spirit and plenty of laughter before students turned their attention to the track and field. Although a light drizzle passed through during the morning, it did little to dampen the enthusiasm, with athletes and spectators alike embracing the conditions and creating an unforgettable carnival atmosphere.

Across every event, students gave their all. Whether chasing an Age Championship, contributing valuable House points or stepping onto the athletics track for the first time, the standard of participation and encouragement was exceptional. Friendly rivalry between the six Houses fuelled the competition, while the constant cheers from the grandstand ensured every performance was celebrated.

The day's marquee event, the Clayfield College Gift, once again proved a crowd favourite. Featuring the eight fastest athletes from the sprint heats in both the girls' and boys' divisions, the handicapped races delivered an exciting finish. Scott Hiruchi powered home to claim the boys' title, while Bella Webb surged through the field to win the girls' event in a thrilling photo finish, bringing the crowd to its feet.

The Carnival was a wonderful celebration of everything that makes Clayfield sport so special highlighting participation, perseverance, connection and House pride. A sincere thank you to our staff, officials, coaches and student leaders whose efforts ensured the day ran seamlessly, and to every student who contributed to an atmosphere that was vibrant, inclusive and unmistakably Clayfield.

Age Champions and the 2026 Champion House will be announced at the upcoming Sports Assembly.

QGSSSA Winter Fixtures - Uniform and Expectations Reminder

As we head into Round 2 of the QGSSSA Winter Fixtures, we thank our students for the outstanding commitment, sportsmanship and pride they have demonstrated throughout the opening rounds of the season.

Representing Clayfield College is both a privilege and a responsibility. Students selected in QGSSSA and Club Sport teams are expected to uphold the highest standards of attendance, behaviour and presentation, recognising that they are ambassadors for the College both on and off the court or field.

Attendance Expectations

All students selected in a QGSSSA or Club Sport team are expected to attend all scheduled training sessions and competition fixtures. If a student is unable to attend due to illness or another genuine reason, this must be communicated to both the relevant Sport Coordinator and the Sports Department as early as possible.

Uniform Expectations

The 2026 Clayfield College Sports Uniform is now compulsory for all students representing the College.

Students are expected to arrive and depart from all training sessions and fixtures in the full Clayfield College sports uniform, demonstrating pride in their appearance and respect for the College.

For cooler conditions, students may wear the following approved outer garments:

• Clayfield College Tracksuit 
• Clayfield College Green Hoodie 

• Clayfield College Multi-Sport Quarter Zip 

   

Netball Uniform Reminder

All netball players are reminded that the official navy Clayfield College bike pants are compulsory and must be worn underneath the College netball dress for all matches. No alternative shorts or bike pants are permitted.

Please Note

• No non-uniform items (including plain jackets, hoodies, senior jerseys or Boarders' jumpers) are permitted. 
• Footwear: Birkenstocks, Crocs and slides are not to be worn to training sessions or fixtures. 

• Jewellery: Students must always comply with the College’s and QGSSSA jewellery regulations.

Andrews Cup Football - Two Teams Charge into Grand Finals

Clayfield College's Andrews Cup footballers produced an outstanding day of football at Somerfields, with two teams progressing to their respective Grand Finals and all players proudly representing the College with skill, teamwork and sportsmanship.

Despite periods of rain throughout the day, the weather did little to dampen the enthusiasm of the players, who embraced the conditions and competed with energy and determination from the opening whistle through to the final matches.

The A Grade team enjoyed an exceptional tournament, progressing confidently through the preliminary rounds to earn a place in the Grand Final. After a spirited performance against quality opposition, the girls finished the day as Runners-Up, capping off an impressive campaign.

The C Grade team also enjoyed a memorable day, remaining undefeated to finish as Equal Champions, sharing first place after a series of outstanding team performances. Their ability to work together, retain possession and create attacking opportunities was a highlight throughout the competition.

Our Junior B team continued to grow in confidence and experience across the tournament, finishing 7th overall. The players embraced every opportunity to learn, improve and support one another, laying strong foundations for future Andrews Cup campaigns.

Congratulations to every student who represented Clayfield College with pride. A sincere thank you is also extended to our coaches, staff and the many parents and supporters who braved the wet conditions to cheer on the girls throughout the day. Your encouragement helped create another memorable Andrews Cup experience.

Andrews Cup Athletics Metro Meet 2

Following a strong start to the season, our Andrews Cup Athletics team returns to the track next week for Metro Meet 2, continuing their preparations for the Andrews Cup Athletics Championships. The meet provides another valuable opportunity for athletes to refine race strategies, gain competition experience and continue building confidence ahead of the season's major event.

Event Details

• Date: Monday 27 July
• Time: 4:00pm to 6:00pm

• Venue: University of Queensland Athletics Centre, St Lucia

   

Transport & Sign-Out:

• Students are to meet at the Tuckshop at 2:30pm for team transport.
• A return bus will bring students back to school.

• Parents collecting students from the venue must sign them out with a Clayfield staff member stationed in the grandstand.

   

Uniform Checklist:

• Clayfield sports polo and shorts
• Clayfield Tracksuit 

• Suitable running shoes (spiked permitted)

Junior School Interhouse Athletics Carnival

The Junior School Interhouse Athletics Carnival is fast approaching, and we look forward to another wonderful day celebrating participation, House spirit and athletic achievement.

• Venue: Bowden Park, Geebung

   

Students should bring:

• Sunscreen 
• Water bottle 
• Morning tea and lunch 
• Towel (optional)

Please ensure all belongings are clearly named.

Parents and family members are warmly invited to attend and support our athletes as they compete. Your encouragement from the sidelines plays an important role in creating a positive and memorable experience for our students. We wish all athletes the very best and look forward to another fantastic afternoon of athletics.

Please note that dogs are not permitted at Bowden Park. While we know they love cheering too, we kindly ask that all furry friends stay at home. Thank you for helping us comply with venue requirements.

Queensland Schools State Cross Country Championships

Clayfield College was proudly represented at the Queensland Schools State Cross Country Championships in Toowoomba, where athletes battled challenging conditions, including blustery winds of up to 60 km/h, to compete against the state's best school-age distance runners.

A standout performance came from Winnie Woodcroft, who produced an outstanding run to finish 9th in Queensland in the 10 Years age division, cementing her place amongst the state's leading young distance athletes.

Winnie also combined with her Metropolitan North teammates to claim the silver medal in the 10 Years Relay, adding another impressive achievement to an already outstanding championship campaign.

Congratulations to Winnie on her exceptional performances and for representing both Clayfield College and Metropolitan North with distinction.
