Continuing to Sculpt the Future 

There is always plenty happening at Langwarrin Park Primary School, and it has been wonderful to see so much energy, enthusiasm and growth across our school community. 

Celebrating Student Growth 

You will have seen our recent NAPLAN and Attitudes to School Survey data, which has been incredibly positive and demonstrates significant growth across a range of areas. These results are a wonderful reflection of the hard work of our students and staff and the strong partnership we have with our families. 

Our updated school vision and values work is also progressing. We have been refining our vision to clearly articulate our commitment to every student receiving a robust, guaranteed and viable curriculum, supported by consistent, high-quality teaching, inclusive wellbeing practices and highly collaborative curriculum planning, instruction and assessment. 

Our goal is simple: to ensure every student develops the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to achieve their full potential. 

Year 5 Student Leadership – 2027 

Our Year 5 students have now received detailed information about the process for applying for 2027 Student Leadership positions, and this information has also been shared with families. 

We have developed a comprehensive and consistent process to ensure that a wide range of factors are considered when selecting our future student leaders. This includes input from all teachers who work with our Year 5 students, student voice, written applications and demonstrated alignment with our school values of Respect, Resilience and Citizenship. 

The process of rating students regularly in line with our school values has already commenced. Our aim is to ensure we select students who are well suited to the responsibilities and expectations of each leadership position and who will positively represent our school. 

Sustainability in Action 

Our sustainability project is making fantastic progress! 

Our students and families have been busy collecting recyclable items, with our Education Support staff helping to deliver the collected materials. More than 900 items have already been collected! 

It is wonderful to see our students taking action and thinking about how they can make a difference to our school environment. 

Our Student Captains have also continued their Change Project. They raised funds for their Creative Bin Project, designed to reduce rubbish around the school. The project was a great success, with basketball rings installed above the school bins to encourage students to aim their rubbish into the bins. The students were incredibly excited to use them! Unfortunately, they have been damaged and removed. 

Colour Fun – Get Ready! 

Our Colour Fun event is coming up soon and the excitement is building! 

We want everyone to get involved. There are some fantastic prizes to be won, and I have heard that one of the incentives may even involve sliming some members of staff! 

All of this fun is in the name of raising funds to help us redevelop our playground spaces for our students. We can't wait to see everyone covered in colour and having a fantastic time together. 

Book Fair and Book Parade 

What a fantastic week we have had with our Book Fair! It has been wonderful to see so many avid readers excited about books and sharing their favourite stories. 

Our Book Parade was a particular highlight. Students put so much effort into dressing as their favourite characters, and it was lovely to see our local preschoolers join us for the celebration. 

Thank you to everyone who helped make the week such a success and, most importantly, helped us celebrate the joy of reading. 

Science Fair – What an Amazing Event! 

Our Science Fair was absolutely amazing, with more than 250 guests joining us. 

The quality, creativity and enthusiasm shown in the student projects was incredible. Our students should be extremely proud of their work, and congratulations to all of our prize winners! 

A huge thank you to our staff, students and families for supporting such a wonderful celebration of curiosity, investigation and learning. 

Father’s Day Celebration – Next Friday 

Don't forget our Father’s Day event next Friday! 

There will be a coffee van, photo opportunities and lots of fun activities taking place in classrooms. We look forward to welcoming our dads, grandfathers, carers and special people into our school community for a morning of celebration. 

Planning for 2027 

Planning for 2027 is already well underway. 

Our Foundation enrolments will soon be complete, and we have planned our transition sessions for our new Foundation students. Next term, we will begin the process of developing our 2027 class structures. 

Our booklists for each year level have also been finalised and will be published at the beginning of next term. We always work hard to keep costs for families as low as possible. Before booklists are published, teachers will send home any excess materials students already have, so families know exactly what they need to purchase. 

Our 2027 Year 6 polos and hoodies are also in the planning stages. Our Year 5 students are involved in a design competition and will have an opportunity to provide student voice when designs are shortlisted. We are looking forward to seeing what they create! 

Digital Devices and Mobile Phones – 2027 

You may have heard about changes to the Department's digital device program for 2027. 

Schools will no longer operate a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program. Students who currently own their own school device will be able to continue using it through to the end of their primary school years. This is why we have not held a BYOD information session for our current Year 4 students. 

There will also be a maximum of 90 minutes of device use per day, with programs and learning experiences adjusted accordingly. 

There are also changes to our Mobile Device Policy, which align with Department expectations for 2027. Further information is available on our school website. 

Roofing Works and Basketball Upgrade 

Our roofing works are almost complete – thank goodness! 

The final stage of the project will cover the hall and continue down that wing, with most of this work scheduled to be completed during the upcoming school holidays. 

Once the builders have completed this final stage, we will be able to commence our basketball area upgrade. We are very excited to see this next project get underway. 

Learning Together – Building Resilience 

There will be some timetable changes next week as our level teams work together to map out learning for the upcoming term. 

Students will remain with their usual class, but their specialist teachers may be scheduled at different times than they normally would be. 

We are also continuing to focus on building resilience, flexibility and independence in our students. 

As part of managing our school budget responsibly, when a teacher is absent, we will generally initially split the class across other classes while we seek a replacement teacher. If the absence continues, we will secure a replacement teacher wherever one is available. 

We know this can sometimes be challenging, particularly when a relief teacher is not immediately available. However, there are also benefits for our students. Spending time learning alongside other students and teachers helps them become more flexible, independent and resilient, while also allowing them to become familiar with other teachers and prepare for the changes that come with moving into a new year level. 

Parent Survey – Thank You 

A Parent Survey was recently sent to all families to help us gather as much feedback and data as possible to inform our future planning and school improvement. 

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to complete the survey. Your feedback is incredibly valuable and helps us understand what we are doing well and where we can continue to improve. 

Important Reminders 

Staff Car Park 

A friendly but important reminder that the staff car park is for staff only. Please do not use these spaces when dropping off or collecting students. 

We have limited parking available, and when staff spaces are used by families, our staff are required to park further away and walk back to school. This has also impacted families attending morning and afternoon Kingswim sessions. 

Thank you for helping us keep this area available for staff. 

After-School Supervision 

A reminder that staff supervision of the school grounds operates from: 

• 8:45–9:00am in the morning 
• 3:30–3:45pm in the afternoon 

The WAIT ZONES have been helpful in keeping students safe. Please remind your children to remain behind the fence until your car pulls up near the gate. 

At 3:45pm, teachers will blow a whistle to signal the end of after-school supervision. Any students who remain on the school grounds without a parent or carer will be asked to come to the office and wait there until they are collected. 

100% awards/Principal Awards 

These will be awarded at the next assembly and your class teacher will notify you if your child is the one who has displayed all of our school values consistently this term. We will be trialling a new ‘certificate ceremony’ so all award winners can be on stage. We are hoping to carry this forward into next term for our THRIVE awards.
