CLASSROOM NEWS!

Team 2/3

For the past fortnight our Grade 3s have been completing NAPLAN. They completed assessments in Writing, Reading, Language and Conventions (spelling, punctuation and grammar) and Maths. All students used their time well and put in their best effort. Congratulations on getting your first NAPLAN out of the way!

In Literacy, we have just begun working on narrative writing, however, we will take a break from it next week to write about Camp Sunnystone! We have read a greater variety of texts in the past couple of weeks. The students have been identifying whether each piece has been non-fiction or fiction. All good readers 'wonder 'when they read and ask themselves questions, such as Why did the character do that, What does that word mean and What will happen next? We have been doing lots of practice 'wondering' and it's leading the students to have interesting discussions about the text and develop greater comprehension.

In Maths, we have continued to work on fluency of basic number facts and this week we've began looking at multiplication. Superstars, Winners and (some) Champions have started with the two times tables. Earlier work on doubling is helping with this. The Premiers and Champions are beginning to learn their three times tables using their knowledge of doubling then adding one more group. All students have made a great start!

Other areas our team have been working on include quitening down to listen and transitioning from one activity or space to another. To quiten down the teacher counts back from 5 and when he/she says one the class should be silent and ready to listen. During transitions we are trialing having music play. At the end of the song all students should have packed up and be sitting on the floor. We've made a good start!
