Principal's Report

Dear HPS Community,
As we come to the end of Term 1, we would like to thank our students, staff and families for a positive and productive start to the 2026 school year at Heidelberg Primary School. It has been wonderful to see students settle into their classrooms, build strong relationships and engage so enthusiastically in their learning.
This term has been filled with many highlights. Early in the term, our community came together for the Welcome Picnic at Possum Hollow, which was a fantastic opportunity for families to connect, build relationships and celebrate the start of the school year in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Our Year 2 students had their Little Explorers' Day and Year 3 students had a fantastic day camp experience at Kinglake Forest Adventure Camp. On both of these occasions everyone demonstrated resilience, teamwork and independence. Across the school, students have embraced a range of learning opportunities, with a strong focus on establishing classroom routines and expectations that support a calm and focused learning environment.
We are incredibly proud of our students’ sporting achievements this term. Many students represented the school at district and regional events, displaying excellent sportsmanship and determination. A special mention to our swimmers who performed exceptionally well at the regional level, with our boys relay team advancing through to the state competition—an outstanding accomplishment.
Our Year 3 and Year 5 students approached the NAPLAN assessments with persistence and a positive mindset, and we commend them for their efforts and positive attitude throughout the testing period.
A key highlight has been our three-way conferences, which provided a valuable opportunity for students, parents and teachers to work together in setting meaningful learning goals. These conversations continue to strengthen the important partnership between home and school.
We also enjoyed concluding the term with our open classroom sessions this week, where parents and carers were warmly invited into classrooms. These sessions provide a wonderful opportunity for students to proudly share their learning, achievements and hard work with their families.
Thank you to our families for your ongoing support and involvement in school life. We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable break, a happy Easter and look forward to another exciting term ahead.
Baseball Friendship Tournament
Congratulations to Zac P who participated in a Baseball Friendship Tournament in late March where some Japanese players travelled to Australia to compete over a few days. The Friendship tournament was held at Waverley Baseball club over the weekend for U12 and U16. Zac and his team played against two Japanese teams. Well done Zac!
