Japan Study Tour: Life at Chosei High School

Our Japan Study Tour students have been thoroughly immersed in school life at Chosei High School.

One of the days began with a whole-group catch-up, giving students the chance to share the adventures they had been having with their host families. From there, Chosei staff led an orientation session and school tour, helping our students get their bearings in what is a busy and vibrant school environment.

The morning was spent in English classes alongside Chosei students, with activities designed to be interactive and fun while providing a genuine opportunity to connect with new friends. After lunch, our students joined a Japanese language class, which proved equally enjoyable and a wonderful reminder of just how much language learning opens doors.

The highlight of the school day was the welcome assembly, and it is fair to say our students rose to the occasion magnificently.

Walking into the assembly hall to a sustained round of applause from Chosei students and staff was a memory our group will carry for a long time. The Chosei students sat in neat rows, perfectly attentive throughout the speeches, and our students responded in kind, including a performance of the Nossal school song. In the words of one of our accompanying staff, it was a moment that left everyone feeling very special indeed.

After the formal school day, students dispersed in different directions: some participated in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, others joined Chosei club activities, and a few headed home early with their host families. A number of students also had the opportunity to attend an evening sound and light show, a spontaneous excursion made possible by the generosity of a Chosei teacher who offered to drive the group. A late night, but very much worth it.

A small additional detail that speaks volumes: on arriving at school, our students discovered that Chosei had prepared personalised lockers for each of them, complete with their names. It is a gesture that perfectly captures the warmth and care with which this school has welcomed our group at every turn.

The tour is progressing wonderfully, and we look forward to sharing more updates as the journey continues.
