From the Principal

I would like to start by thanking everyone who have made me feel so welcome, as I transitioned back into my substantive role, as the Principal of Guyra Central School, during Term 2 2026. It really does feel wonderful to be back in the community, taking the time to reengage with your children and the Guyra Central School amazing staff. Thank you to Mr Timothy Lloyd for his great contribution as the relieving Principal in my absence and to Mrs Ellie Auld, relieving Deputy Principal and Dr Debra Kelliher, relieving Head Teacher English. As you would be aware the educational leadership team and their staff have done an fabulous job in my absence. Mr Lloyd has been on two weeks leave during Week 10 and Week 11 of this term but will return into his Deputy Principal role at the commencement of Term 3.
We will be having extensive renovation works happening in a few areas of the Primary area of the school during the school break. When work is completed, the newly renovated rooms/play areas will accommodate our Multi-categorical Support Class. There will be trucks entering the school during this school break and construction internally and in the grounds of the school. Please ensure that your children are not entering the school grounds during this time as it will be a work site and may put your children at unnecessary risk. We hope that the work will be completed prior to Education Week and we will be able to showcase our new building additions.
During the past few weeks, Head Teacher Administration, Kylie Adams, relieving Deputy Principal, Ellie Auld and I have been meeting with 2026 Year 12 students and their families to discuss any support that our students and their families may need as they transition into life beyond the school gate. Thank you to Mrs Adams for her amazing organisation and preparation for these meetings. Year 12 students now have 10 weeks of their school life to go. Heads down everyone, you are nearly there.
It was my privilege to read every school report for our students these past few weeks. Thank you to our staff for their diligence and care in the preparation of these reports. A special thank you to our office team for the extra work that this involves. We have many hard-working students at Guyra Central School. I was particularly impressed by the authentic and honest student reflection statements. Most students were able to specify the areas that they would need to put more focus on to improve their learning outcomes and felt comfortable celebrating their areas of achievement. I would like to acknowledge the great support of parents/family members who attended our parent teacher K-12 meetings during Week 10 and Week 11 and our Year 11 2026 subject selection meeting during Week 10. Thanks for the commitment of parents/carers and staff to provide the best for Guyra Central School students.
Mr Lloyd attended the Guyra Lions July Changeover meeting on 1/7/26. At this meeting he was presented with a donation/pledge for $2,200. This money will be used to complete work on internal fencing for the Agricultural area of the school. Thank you so much to our Guyra Lions for their continued support of the school.
I would like to wish everyone a relaxing school break. Please travel safely if you are leaving the area. Eleven-week terms are always challenging towards the end. Our students and staff need a well-earned rest. Thanks again for your support of the school and I look forward to catching up with more parents/carers/families in Term 3.
