  Year 1/2M's Learning is...

 “Up, Up and Away!”

This term, 1/2M students have been on an exciting learning journey inspired by the theme “Up, Up and Away!” They have grown in confidence, curiosity, and independence while developing their skills in reading, writing, mathematics, and inquiry learning. We are proud of how they have embraced new challenges and soared to new heights throughout Term 2.

RELIGION

Our Religion topic this term is based on the importance of relationships. This includes those with our family, friends and those around us. Another relationship we try to foster is with God, through the Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. We have been reflecting on the  birthday of the church which is the Season of Pentecost. Students represented God the Holy Spirit with pastel colours of their choice. The dove is a symbol of the Holy Spirit as is the Tongue of Fire.

LITERACY

In our Inquiry topic, we have been learning about ‘Amazing Animals and Their Features’. We researched factual books and learned to take notes to find out how animals survive in the wild using their external features. We read many non fiction texts and then used our knowledge to write sentences and paragraphs using subheadings to organise our work into an amazing Book Report about our chosen animal. We then shared our report to an audience.

MATHS

In maths, students have continued to  build their addition and subtraction skills through lots of hands-on learning, games, and fun maths activities. They practise mental maths strategies such as counting on and back, using doubles, making tens, and spotting number patterns. These experiences help children become more confident with numbers, strengthen their problem-solving skills, and develop quick and efficient ways to work with maths in everyday situations.
