Term 2 Was Fantastic in 5/6MR!!!

Camp

Earlier this term, all of the Year 5/6s headed off to camp at Phillip Island. It was an unforgettable experience filled with excitement, challenge, and plenty of fun. Throughout the camp, students had the opportunity to step outside their comfort zones, build resilience and develop valuable teamwork skills while participating in a wide range of activities. The adventure began with exciting outdoor challenges including canoeing, the low ropes course, the flying fox and the giant swing. These activities encouraged students to face fears, support one another and celebrate personal achievements. Camp cooking provided a hands-on experience where students worked together to prepare meals, strengthening cooperation and independence. A visit to A Maze'N Things brought plenty of laughter and problem-solving as students explored puzzles, mazes, and interactive challenges. Team Rescue activities further promoted communication, leadership, and trust as groups worked together to overcome obstacles and achieve common goals. Evenings were just as memorable, with a variety of night activities including a trivia night, campfire, and movie night. These experiences created opportunities for students to relax, connect with friends, and enjoy time together in a supportive environment.

Public Speaking

This term we have been having weekly sessions of Public Speaking from Mrs Sandra De Geest. Through the program, we have learnt how to present Prepared and Off the Cuff speeches and we have also learnt how to evaluate other people’s speeches in a helpful and supportive manner. We learnt how to use strategies such as vocal variety, gestures, eye contact and use of props to uplevel our presentations. Mrs De Geest also guided us through other supporting roles such as Master of Ceremonies, Meeting Organiser, Timers and Reporters. 5/6MR are very proud of how much each and every student has improved and we have loved participating in this program.
