Foundation Zoo Excursion

National Gallery of Victoria Workshop

On Monday 24th August 2026, the Year 4 students participated in an online drawing workshop hosted by the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV). Award winning author and illustrator, Freya Blackwood, demonstrated how to draw characters using soft, thin lines at first, then drawing over with thick, dark lines. She instructed us to hold our pencil loosely from the middle, so that our lines would be free and wild! It was wonderful to listen to where Freya Blackwood finds inspiration for her characters and story ideas. She had written and/or illustrated over 32 books! Each book takes her approximately 6 months to illustrate! Abdullah & Tram from 4C were lucky to have Freya answer their question, ‘What is the hardest thing to draw?’ She answered, ‘Horses… cars…birds…’  There was quite a list – highlighting to us all that drawing is hard, even for the experts!

Chinese Dance School Incursion

Students from Years 3–6 recently participated in a cultural incursion with Diversity Dance, exploring the vibrant traditions of Chinese dance. 

Our students were highly engaged and participated enthusiastically, demonstrating our school values of respect, resilience, pride, integrity and collaboration throughout the session. It was wonderful to see so many students smiling, building their confidence and showing courage as they performed in front of their peers, while our teachers also joined in the dancing and shared the experience with their students. 

We would like to thank all students for their enthusiastic participation and positive attitude throughout the incursion, and the dance instructor was very impressed with our students and would be delighted to visit our school again in the future.

JSC

On Tuesday, Bella a representative from State Schools' Relief (SSR) came to visit our JSC and School Captains. Our School Captains presented Bella with a donation certficate for the recent fundraiser we had to raise money for SSR (PJ Day). Bella spoke to the students about what SSR is about and how they help students in need. We appreciate Bella coming out to see us. If you are interested in what SSR is all about, please ask your JSC rep or one of our school captains.
