Spelling Bee Results Are In!
The results are in from our Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee last week, and we are thrilled to announce that Inara (5/6) has progressed through to the State Level!
We would like to take this opportunity to once again congratulate all of our students who participated. We were incredibly proud to have them represent St Brigid’s and showcase their spelling skills.
The State Level competition will also be held online at school, where Inara will compete against students from across the state.
We wish Inara the very best as she takes on this next stage of the competition. We’ll be cheering you on, Inara!
Book Week with Josh Pyke!
As part of our Book Week celebrations, all students from Foundation to Year 6 took part in an exciting online session with the State Library of Victoria, working alongside author and musician Josh Pyke.
Students worked with Josh to create a song all about their classmates, exploring how tone can help shape a song and identify rhyming words to bring their ideas to life. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to combine their love of books, music and creativity while learning from a talented Australian author and musician.

Science Week
The Science Week theme this year is “Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All,” focusing on how curiosity, creativity and discovery help us learn about the world around us. Here is how our school is planting the seeds of science!
Foundation
The Foundation students are learning about the features of plants and animals - drawing and labelling diagrams, and sorting based on features that are similar or different. During our walking excursion around Mordialloc, we will look for plants that grow in our local area that we can photograph and research when we return to school.
Year 1
Year One has had so much fun learning about Push and Pull and our unit on Forces. We made our own cars and tested a strong push, a weak push and how to get the right push to park it in a garage. We finished with a race in the hall. I wonder what will happen when we explore the concept of gravity?
Year 2
The Year 2s are exploring how different materials can change shape when they are bent, twisted or stretched. We will observe which materials can return to their original shape and which changes are permanent and grouping materials based on properties such as texture, hardness and flexibility. It has been lots of fun discovering what happens when we change shape!
Year 3/4
The Year 3/4 students have been exploring solids, liquids and gases through hands-on experiments. They have made predictions about the properties of each state of matter, tested these through practical investigations, and used their understanding to reflect on and explain their results.
Year 5/6
The Year 5/6s are exploring how light reacts when it is reflected, refracted, absorbed and transmitted. They have been using diagrams and experiments to investigate how light travels and creates effects such as rainbows. We are also using hands-on activities so students will develop their understanding of the properties and behaviour of light!
