The Issue Highlights
Dear Families,
Melbourne Cup Long Weekend
There is no school on Monday 3rd November. This is a pupil free day for teachers to start their end of year reports. Tuesday 4th November is a public holiday due to Melbourne Cup. Students return to school on Wednesday 5th November. School buses will operate as normal.
Happy World Teachers' Day!
Today is World Teachers' Day which honours teachers, whose passion and hard work make a real difference to student’s lives every day.
Thank you for your commitment, dedication and support for our students and each other every day.
Spooky Dress up

Today many students dressed up for spooky dress-up day. Thank you to all of the families who supported our students to take part.
You all looked amazing!

The Mighty Trek Callenge
On Monday 20th October, Jackson School joined with ‘Life’s Little Treasures Foundation’ to support their 20th anniversary. They are a charity that supports families across Australia who have had a premature or sick baby. To help raise awareness and promote donations we were chosen as one of the locations between Sydney and Melbourne to join in the challenge. We were given the target of pushing an incubator 200 times around our school track. I know this cause means a lot to many of our families.
Despite the inclement weather, we were joined by: the Mayor of Brimbank, Cr Thuy Dang, midwives from Western Health, volunteers from Deloittes, the staff from Life’s Little Treasures plus our amazing school community. It was a very successful day with the 200 laps completed and medals given to all student participants. Everyone rose to the challenge and enjoyed the day.

Values Week
In Week 5, we celebrate Values Week. Our students strive to display our values (Learning, Independence, Safety, Respect, Responsibility) everyday by displaying the employability skills (Communication, Team Work/Collaboration, Problem-solving, Initiative and Enterprise, Planning and Organising, Self-Awareness & Management, Learning, Technology). Our students will take part in volunteering activities around the school in memory of Russ Jackson. In 1989 our school was renamed Jackson School to honour the work done by Russ Jackson. Russel was a volunteer at Jackson for over 20 years; he was gardener/handyman, caretaker and School Council President. One of his main initiatives was setting up the gardening program.

Over the last four years we have added additional learner characteristics which we teach our students to become a Jackson Learner. These eight Employability Skills will enable all of our students to be contributing members of the wider community. Each term we focus on one characteristic/skills of learning and independence as a throughline of our Inquiry units.
Please see above our employability skills posters to represent these learner characteristics. In Values Week, students will collect stickers for the 8 employability skills in a Jackson Passport.
