CYBER SAFETY INCURSION
Today the Grade 4-6 students participated in a Cyber Safety Incursion presented by Yasmin from The Cyber Safety Project.
The Grade 4 session was called Privacy Protectors. The students explored how to protect their personal information whilst connecting, learning and playing online. They learned to:
- Distinguish between personal, public and private spaces online
- Understand who can see them online and why it matters
- Consider what information they share and where they share it
- Protect their data with strong, secure passwords
Recognise signs of potential online scams and threats
The Grade 5/6 session was called Digital Defenders. The students discussed the skills needed to navigate their digital world safely and responsibly. They learned to:
- Identify cyberbullying and discussed the importance of being an upstander
- Protect privacy and personal data
- Recognise the risk of oversharing
- Understand online responsibilities and the law
Know where to seek help and report online abuse
It would be great to discuss the session with your child at home and to ensure that you have open channels of communication around online behaviour and also firm guidelines around its usage in your home. Over the last few years particularly, we have learned that nothing works better than close supervision and active monitoring.
